Accompanied by a policeman, Leila goes to her husband’s apartment after receiving the order for custody of her daughter. After repeated attempts, there is no response from her husband. Meanwhile, a young jewel robber coerces her sister to be an accomplice in a job. The job may include robbing an elderly woman one of the sisters works for. The lives of these women intertwine with grave results.
Born in 1978 in Tehran, Shabnam Orfinejad is a graduate of Journalism. She started her film career as a script-girl and editor assistant in several television series and feature films. NOTHING BEHIND THE DOOR is her first feature film, and HIFF is proud to have its International Premiere.
RED, WHITE AND THE GREEN UNITED STATES PREMIERE saTURDay, OCTObER 16 | 12:00 Pm | REgal DOlE
IRan 2009 | faRsI W/ EnglIsh sUbTITlEs | 57 m DIRECTOR: Nader Davoodi
Last year, the international community was alarmed by the events that occurred in the wake of the tenth presidential elections in Iran and the eyes of the world’s media were all turned towards what was happening in the country. During the course of a few days – the most violent since the Islamic Revolution – more than 65 people died. The international community began to wonder what could have caused such widespread dissent and such a vehement clash with the government.
The documentary RED, WHITE AND THE GREEN focuses on the last three weeks prior to the elections of June 2009. The film shows fifty-eight minutes of images from Tehran as it has never before been seen. Perhaps the most moving aspect of this film is the enormous sense of optimism expressed by most protagonists with regard to the upcoming elections – little could they know that many of them would experience a rude awakening.
