Gonzalez-Rubio CasT: Jorge Machado, Natan Machado Palombini, Nestor Marin, Roberta Palombini

Writer and director, Pedro Gonzalez-Rubio, does a stunning job of portraying paternal love and the bond between a father and son in the movie, ALAMAR. Natan is a 5-year old boy facing the separation of his parents, Roberta and Jorge. Before Natan and his mother, Roberta, depart for their new home in Rome, Natan will spend a few days with his father, Jorge.

In the crystal clear waters of Banco Chinchorro, off Mexico’s coast and inhabited by fisherman living in dwellings on stilts, Jorge and Natan will form a timeless bond. Their days are filled with meaningful duties of fishing, snorkeling, identifying the reef plants and animals, and survival. Through the responsibilities as a fisherman and the connection with nature, Jorge teaches Natan invaluable lessons about life and heritage. Shot in the style of a documentary, ALAMAR beautifully captures the ties between a father and his son. —Lisa Yamamoto
