Halo Heroes is a tribute to the “Hero Caregiver” who would appreciate and deserves a myHalo for their loved one, or a “Hero Senior” who would appreciate and deserves a myHalo for themselves. “Halo Monitoring is a leader in innovative, age-
in-place technology and this is an opportunity to honor the heroes in our lives who inspire others around them and motivate all of us to do more for our families and communities,” says Chris Otto, CEO of Halo Monitoring. “The Halo Heroes contest is a way to say thank you to the heroes in our lives for their daily sacrifices.”
How to Win The contest runs from October 1 through
healthy body, mind, and spirit.
November 17. To enter, registrants must complete a brief entry form and write a short story about either a “Hero Caregiver” who deserves the myHalo system for a loved one, or a “Hero Senior” who deserves a myHalo system to help preserve their independence. Complete directions, entry forms, and rules and
regulations are available on the Halo Monitoring Website,
www.halomonitoring.com. What You’ll Win The myHalo medical alert system utilizes a small, comfortable, wireless device worn by a
senior and monitors a user’s health, physical activity, and much more. myHalo sends an automatic alert – no need to push a button – in the event of a fall. Emergency medical response teams, caregivers, and the individual’s family are all contacted. myHalo is also the first system of its kind to use a secure web portal to allow family members or designated caregivers the ability to “look-in” on a loved one’s situation 24/7, from anywhere, without invading a senior’s privacy. Winners will be selected at the end of the
contest and a total of 20 myHalo medical alert systems and one year of monitoring will be awarded to the winners.
The Graston Technique: Resolving Chronic Conditions Thought to be Permanent
submitted by Northeast Rehab The Graston Technique (GT) is a treatment option available to patients suffering from restrictive scar tissue, which may have developed after injury or surgery. The Technique uses specially designed, stainless-steel instruments to detect and treat soft tissue fibrosis or chronic inflammation in muscles, tendons, and ligaments. The Graston Technique has been clinically proven to achieve
quicker and better outcomes in treating both acute and chronic conditions, including: ankle pain, wrist pain, fibromyalgia, tennis elbow, back/neck pain, golfer’s elbow, knee pain, foot pain, shoulder pain, and shin splints. Patients usually receive two treatments per week over four to five
weeks. Most patients have a positive response by the third to fourth treatment.
Benefits of GT include:
• Less time spent in treatment, • Reduced need for anti-inflammatory medication, • Resolution of a chronic condition thought to be permanent, • The ability to continue everyday activities. How does it work? The instruments are used by therapists to

“catch” fibrotic tissue. Once the problem area has been located, the instruments are used to break up scar tissue so it can be absorbed by the body. GT instruments, much like tuning forks, resonate in the clinician’s hands. This allows the clinician to isolate adhesions and restrictions and treat them in a more precise manner. Since the metal surface of the instruments does not compress, as do the fat pads of the finger, deeper restrictions can be accessed and treated.
Where can I get Graston Technique? Graton Technique is
used by 9,000 clinicians worldwide—including athletic trainers, chiropractors, hand therapists, and occupational and physical therapists. However, a clinician must be trained and accredited in Graston Technique Basic Training to obtain the instruments and provide treatment.
Northeast Rehab is pleased to announce that we have therapists
trained in Graston Technique at our clinics in Salem and in Lowell, Lawrence, Haverhill, and North Andover, MA. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 893-2900, ext. 3210, or visit

Today, as many as 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease. Factoring in the number of sufferers worldwide, Alzheimer’s is affecting the lives of millions of people on a daily basis. Finding a cure for the disease is of the utmost importance for the families and friends coping with Alzheimer’s. Alzheimer’s disease is a brain dis- order named for Alois Alzheimer, the German physician who first described the condition in the early 1900s. Alzheimer’s is a fatal, progressive brain disease. Symptoms may start out quite mild and then grow more intrusive as the
disease pro- gress- es. Today, it is
the seventh leading cause of death in the U.S., according to the Alzheimer’s Association. Dementia is one of the primary symptoms of Alzheimer’s, and people with the disease can go from normal function in their lives to completely compromised living. Memory loss, confusion, inability to handle daily tasks, and many other symptoms are symptoms of the disease. Eventu- ally, the brain cannot control the normal func- tions of the body, which can lead to fatality. During the last 20 years, doctors and research-
ers have made strides toward finding a cure and successful treatments for Alzheimer’s Disease. However, more research is needed and that requires funding and donations from concerned individuals. The Alzheimer’s Association ac- cepts donations to continue their work toward finding a cure and educating individuals about this debilitating disease. To learn more visit,
