UV disinfecting at city pools Among recent City Council actions


Ultraviolet (UV) disinfecting systems will be installed at all six city public pools, making Chandler the fi rst municipality in the Valley to have UV systems installed. That was one of the actions at the Sept. 16 Chandler City Council meeting, when the Council approved a $692,595 contract with Shasta Industries for the work.


Other items the Council acted on include authorizing an intergovernmental agreement with the Arizona Department of Public Safety to continue Chandler’s participation in the Arizona Vehicle Theft Task Force Program to combat vehicle theft; approving a Preliminary Development Plan for the expansion of a parking lot in the Panattoni development located northeast of the Germann Road / Cooper Road intersection to allow for the growth of an existing tenant, EDMC; approving $687,898 in contracts with two fi rms, Interstate Mechanical Corporation and FMI Heating & Cooling, to replace the chiller and cooling tower in Chandler’s Main Library and the cooling tower in the Police Department Main Station, paid for with stimulus funds awarded to Chandler as part of an Energy Effi ciency and Conservation Block Grant; approving an agreement with the Gila River Indian Community (GRIC) to extend sewer utility service to property GRIC is developing into a medical care facility on tribal land located northwest of Queen Creek and Price roads; approving a $276,602 contract with Dean Masonry Construction for the replacement of sections of city-owned masonry walls located on the east side of Dobson Road south of Mesquite Street, on


as a Temporary Extension of Premises Liquor License to extend the alcohol serving area for an Oktoberfest event being held Sept. 25 at the SanTan Brewing Company.

Dobson near Summit Place, and on Alma School Road near both Summit Place and Barrow Drive; approving use permits for monopalm wireless towers located at four locations within the City and continued to November 18 their deliberations regarding a proposed tower in a shopping center located at the southeast corner of Ray and Kyrene roads; approving $88,000 for the purchase of wireless network equipment for the Chandler Center for the Arts; recommending approval of a special event liquor license for the Downtown Chandler Community Partnership for “TASTE” Chandler’s Culinary Festival, to be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Sat., Oct. 2 at Dr. AJ Chandler Park as well


In addition, a public hearing was held on the proposed annexation of .43 acres of land located at the southwest corner of Ocotillo Road and the Consolidated Canal. Mayor Boyd Dunn recognized Special Olympics athletes from the Team Arizona Flag Football Team who won the national championship at the Special Olympics USA National Games in Lincoln, NE; Southwest Ambulance presented the City’s Aquatics Program with a $3,000 check to provide swimming lessons to children of families who cannot afford swim lessons; the Douglas Allred Company presented a check for $25,000 to the Boys and Girls Club of the East Valley; and the Mayor’s Youth Commission made a presentation about their recent participation in the Teen Town Hall.
