Benise performs at CCA ACJS hosts Cheryl Stephens, jazz band


Benise and his Emmy award-winning cast of the PBS special “Nights on Fire” take the stage in “The Spanish Guitar” at 7 p.m. Sun., Oct. 3 at the newly renovated Chandler Center for the Arts. “The Spanish Guitar” incorporates video, music, fashion, a changing set and Spanish dance performed by fl amenco dancers, Broadway dancers and featured soloists who have worked with stars such as Madonna, Ricky Martin and Celine Dion. Grand re-opening at Fulton Ranch Promenade


Live entertainment, food samplings, discounts and more are part of the grand re-opening of Fulton Ranch Promenade Oct. 15 and 16 on South Alma School Road at Chandler Heights.


A new specialty grocery store, Good Food Market, will be open in the former AJ’s Fine Foods store, and will host tasting stations where attendees can meet local food vendors and participate in interactive activities. Along with live performances by local jazz musicians from 6 to 9 p.m. Fri., Oct. 15, including Laurie Fagen & Todd Martino along with the Vandal-Hancock duo, there will be food sampling by Promenade restaurants, in-store discounts, free mini services and other attractions. The fi rst 150 people will receive a free goodie bag, and the fi rst 100 will also receive a $10 gift card from a Promenade merchant. It will be a chance to celebrate other existing and new businesses there.


The event continues the next day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sat., Oct. 16. In addition to continuing the activities from Friday, kids will enjoy bounce houses, a juggler, face painting and a balloon artist. For more information, visit www.FultonRanchShopping.com.


Cheryl Stephens


Vocalist Cheryl Stephens appears with the popular 52nd Street Jazz Band from 1 to 4 p.m. Sun., Oct. 24 at the Crowne Plaza San Marcos Golf Resort in downtown Chandler. The event is hosted by the Arizona Classic Jazz Society. Stephens has performed with the Jeff Woodhouse Dixieland Jazz Band, Desert City Six, Big Tiny Little, Jimmy Rivers, Coyote Hills, Igor’s Jazz Cowboys and others, appearing frequently on the festival and cruise circuit. Cost for the show is $10 for ACJS members, $15 for nonmembers and younger than 18 years of age are free. Those who become an ACJS member at the show can get in

Sonoran Desert Chorale opens new season


“In Search of Light” is performed by the 63-member Sonoran Desert Chorale, now in its 17th season, at 7:30 p.m. Sat., Oct. 9 at First United Methodist Church in Mesa and 3 p.m., Sun., Oct. 10 at Valley Presbyterian Church in Paradise Valley. The program features works inspired by the words and writings of history’s most enlightened men and women, including St. John the Apostle, Buddha, Desmond Tutu, Martin Luther King and Mother Theresa. Selections include James Whitbourn’s “Luminosity” and “A Prayer of Archbishop Desmond Tutu;” Rene Clausen’s “Prayer” with text from Mother Theresa; Z. Randall Stroope’s “Inscription of Hope,” U2’s “MLK,” “This Little Light of Mine” and “True Light.” Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for students and seniors ages 62 and older.
