How small changes
..can lead to big results
In the Fall season of the year I used to drive
down city streets and boulevards where the color was electrifying. Where weeks before there had been nothing but green leaves, now countless shades of shiny gold, pumpkin-tinted oranges, brilliant crimson reds, deep royal purples and a full palette of nearly every rainbow color.
Often I thought “Why couldn’t I have a yard that
lived at THAT LEVEL?” So, I made a decision to do a few little things. I planted a scarlet maple, several trees of the ash family, three river birches and an assortment of trees that had a promise of a brilliant Fall built into their genetic makeup.
They were small, so the change wasn’t instant- aneous. I did some “little” things like watering, pruning and fertilizing. Now, those “little things” have become a yard bursting with color on every side of my house. And I didn’t plant a gigantic, expensive tree to start the color explosion. I just did “some little things”.
Those trees made me wonder “What does it
mean to “LIVE AT THE NEXT LEVEL”? How can my personal life be filled with joy, excitement, a feeling of fulfillment and happiness? How can I live at THE NEXT LEVEL?
Many people think there’s a great gap separating those who live an ordinary life and those who live an extraordinary one. But the truth is that there’s only a fine line between where you are now and the next level.
Sometimes, all it takes to move up is a small change in your daily habits, a little different way of looking at things, or a willingness to get up one more time than you’ve been knocked down. The only real difference between ordinary and extra ordinary is that little “extra.”
No matter where you are right now, you’re cap- -able of taking that step. The key is to do what you

can today to come closer to the person you want to be, to attain your potential tomorrow. Make those little changes everyday and before you know it, you’ll find that you’ve moved up to the next level.
It is amazing the number of people who think if they just keep on doing the same things, acting the same way, having the same attitude and operate by the same habits that they will somehow become a different person.
“You are the way you are because that’s the way you want to be. If you really wanted to be any different, you would be in the process of changing right now.”
- Fred Smith
One of my favorite truths I heard years ago is: “If you want to keep on getting what you are getting, keep on doing what you are doing.” If you and I don’t change our thoughts and our behavior nothing will ever change.
