“Thumbs down to Salem’s Inspection Services, or should I say ‘lack of service?’ An ice cream truck, hot dog truck, and panel van all in a driveway on North Main St, complaints filed and still nothing. Maybe it’s because the owner is politically connected and has coffee everyday with our Inspector?”

“Thumbs down to the driver of a gray

Mercedes sedan, with an initial vanity plate, who dumps his trash in the bin at Fields of Dreams in the early morning. He has been seen three times pulling into the parking lot and unloading his garbage in the receptacle that taxpayers pay to have emptied. He comes in from Main Street, down Geremonty Drive and turns right into the parking lot. He exits in the

then look. It wasn’t before and its definitely not now! Also, the 18 wheelers should not be allowed down here. There is no room for opposite traffic to pass through and the truck and/or the vehicle ends up ripping up our lawns. Really curious why a local company like TNT is the main offender! Its just as easy for them to go around!!!”

“Thumbs down to the

anonymous person who made derogatory remarks

about a specific person. The Lancaster community is lucky to have such a caring person working in the school office. She is a positive role model for the staff and especially the students. Just for the record, she lives in town which means that she contributes to her own paycheck. “

“Thumbs down to the Salem Patriot’s

‘Thumbs up/Thumbs down’ weekly column. The firestorm of criticism you received from your publishing of the lamebrain rant two weeks ago defaming a lovely employee of the Lancaster School system was richly deserved. Too often the diatribes in your publication result in genuine character assassination, and is

same direction. Your license plate has been noted -- you cheapo.”

“Thumbs down to the impudent person trying to deface the wonderful secretary at Lancaster School. You couldn’t confront her yourself or speak with her boss directly? You had to put it in the paper where others who do not know her can form a negative opinion based on your unfound one? The community that does know her, knows better. Do you have any idea what the secretaries in our schools actually do for the schools and the community? They constantly strive to assure that the schools run efficiently. They make sure that every child is safe, etc., etc., etc., She did not deserve this, and is owed an apology.”

“Thumbs down to the detour from N. Main St. to a NARROW section of Town Farm Rd. There needs to be a STOP sign where it meets the main Section of Town Farm now more than ever. People not familiar to the area come up to the current yield sign feeling safe to roll out and

totally unwarranted both due to the anonymous nature of the criticism as well as the fact that no evidence-checking is done to determine if it is even truthful commentary.

“Thumbs up to the Salem Patriot’s ‘Thumbs

up/Thumbs down’ weekly column. Inherently the idea is a sound one, and can promote a more positive sense of community and its citizens, especially with the compliments and ‘thank you’s’ that are printed. But two simple rules should govern the crass and negative attacks that you DO publish: 1. No actual names should EVER be given, for obvious reasons. And 2. Make sure that the rant passes the smell test. A wild-eyed insult-fest steeped in ignorance, complete with the requisite fractured syntax, misspellings and a million exclamation points for ‘emphasis’ should be readily apparent to any decent editor, and should be excluded. You have an important responsibility to our general public not to cause the anguish suffered by that hard-working secretary, just to publish the ravings of another in the long line of

disgruntled parents.”

“Thumbs down...Please please please people, if you see a young driver being cautious, driving slow, or not getting out of your way fast enough, please consider that they are learning to drive. By beeping at them is showing total ignorance on your part. Driving with my son, who is in drivers ed also, this happens a lot, and my son is doing nothing wrong except learning the correct way to drive! Maybe you need to take drivers ed again yourselves! Lay off the horn!

“Thumbs up to Mrs. MacAskill! She is the best secretary in the world. She is never, ever mean to anyone in the school. I am a Lancaster third grader. I have been at Lancaster since first grade and I think she is wonderful, stylish, and kind. She does a great job. Her daughter was my summer camp counselor and she is very nice, too.”

“Thumbs up to using moral judgment first

when it comes to making decisions. Please vote for ‘pro-life’ candidates this November (especially if you ‘claim’ to believe in God). Mother Teresa quote: ‘Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching its people to love, but to use violence to get what they want.’ Anyone who once accepted abortion, whether you’ve had one or not, but now are pro-life, please reach out to others who don’t know the truth. Anyone who still accepts abortion, please research it and see it for what it really is. Our president and the Planned Parenthoods (abortion clinics) aren’t going to tell you the truth. ‘2012’ movie quote: ‘The moment we stop fighting for each other, that’s the moment that we lose our humanity.’”

“Thumbs down to the tree

school. I think she is a perfectionist, in fact I know she is a perfectionist from her husband and children. But please don’t judge. I want her to put herself in someone else’s shoes for once and her reaction wasn’t appropriate period.”

“Thumbs down to anyone who would vote Republican on the Nov ballot unless you can explain how the R party plans to stop the spending, deposit revenue into our great state NH and not fall back into the Bush era? Please explain?”

“Thumbs up to the Salem Farmers Market

always bringing fresh, excellent quality produce to our family table. I still shop Peters, but like the idea of supporting other local farms once a week. The farms that come to the market are not as big as Peters and so the cost maybe a little higher but the quality is superior.”

& Tuesday Special!

removal company on Tuesday 9-7-2010 across the street from Lancaster School. Why couldn’t your company have waited 60 minutes to allow all the students to safely pass. Although there was an officer present, it created a very dangerous and unnecessary situation. These trees were being chain-sawed directly above passing students on the cross walk of all places. A large chipper hurling chunks of wood with extreme velocity was less than 10 feet from students. Unless the officer had superman’s abilities, this should have never taken place. All those witnessing this stupidity were shocked at the recklessness including my 6 year old. The school should take this matter up with both its neighbor and the Salem PD to ensure something like this will never occur again. Next time lady luck may not be so kind.”
