nicely, taking a 3-0 win over Nashua South (25-18, 25-14, and 25-13). Larocque had eight kills on the night, which had her breaking the 2007 record established by Morgan Towle (398 kills). Larocque currently has 403 career kills, with nine matches and playoffs remaining. Kayla Duval contributed 13 service points and nine assists. At the halfway mark of the season, the Lady Broncos are currently in sixth place in NHIAA Division 1 volleyball with a 7-2 record. The Broncos will host Winnacunnet on October 4.

Lady Broncos Soccer Roundup
by Sue LaRoche The Lady Broncos played like a well-oiled machine against the Tomahawks of Merrimack on Thursday, September 16, handing them a 4-1 defeat. Senior Amanda Roberts scored twice for the Broncos, once in the first half and again in the second half. Alvirne went down 1-0 early in the game, but scored their first goal at the 25:09 mark when Nicole Godschall blasted a shot past the Merrimack goalie on a pass from Taylor Troy. Amanda Roberts had a breakaway goal at 20:44 to give the Broncos the lead, which they would not relinquish. In the second half, Kaela Craven headed the ball into
the back of the net off of a Troy corner kick. Amanda Roberts then added the frosting on the cake with her second goal of the game from a Laura Boucher pass. Katelyn Fortier had 11 saves on the day. On Tuesday, September 21, Alvirne hosted Bishop Guertin and fought to a 2-2 tie. BG struck first in the middle of the first half, but with 4:17 remaining, Tori LaRoche fed Amanda Roberts for the game-tying goal. BG scored again with 14:15 remaining in the game when they put away a rebound off a direct kick. Once again, with under two minutes remaining in the game, Troy hit the top-right corner of the goal with an amazing shot from 30 yards out on a layoff pass from Amanda Roberts. The
defense stood strong in this game as they were playing two women down due to injuries, but Emily Gosselin, Jess Roberts, Craven, Katie Gillum, and Alicia Gillis were up to the task. “We need to be aggressive throughout the entire game,” commented Coach Lance McAdam, who was pleased with his team’s efforts in the latter stages of the game. “Our defense stood tall today,” he said. Fortier had a key save late in the second overtime to preserve the tie. On Friday, nursing some key injuries to Godschall and Kaelyn Babin, the Broncos could not pull out a victory against Nashua South, taking the loss, 4-1. Amanda Roberts scored the lone goal of the game, with some great foot skills and speed, beating the South goalie to give Alvirne an early 1-0 lead. But that was the only goal the Broncos could muster. Alvirne managed 12 shots on goal and keeper Fortier had 15 saves in the game. On Tuesday, in torrential rains, the Lady Broncos took one on the chin in a 7-2 defeat to number-one ranked Exeter High School. Troy had two goals for the Broncos, while Tori LaRoche and Krissy Rowe played well for Alvirne. The Lady Broncos will host Winnacunnet on Friday. The Broncos sport a record of 3-4-2 on the season.
Boys’ Cross Country Results Also, just a reminder that the Alvirne
girls’ volleyball team will host a Dig Pink night on Friday, October 8, at their home game vs. Hollis-Brookline. The girls will be wearing pink as part of their uniform, and accepting donations to support Breast Cancer Research. Please come to support the volleyball program and a worthy cause.
by Sue LaRoche This past weekend, the boys’ cross-country team ran in the Manchester Invitational, placing 15th overall and 12th running against the Division 1 schools. Caleb Donnelly was the first Alvirne runner to cross the line at 17:27, which was good enough for 17th overall. Chris Low finished in 18:32, making him the second Bronco to finish, and he was followed by freshman Cody Ross in 19:00. Brandon MacInnis and Matt Gagnon rounded out the top- five finishers with times of 10:17 and 19:29, respectively.
The boys have three additional meets to run in order to improve their times and qualify for the Class L meet. The Broncos finished second in the second meet of the week against Bishop Guertin, Salem, Concord, Exeter, and Manchester Memorial. Donnelly again paced the Broncos with a time of 17:25, followed by MacInnis at 18:49, Gagnon at 19:14, Adam Charron at 19:19, Anthony Cestrone at 19:46, Ross at 19:50, and Low at 20:10. The boys will run at Thetford Academy in Vermont on Saturday, October 2.
