ATHLETICS
MAC Golf Champions Recently Crowned
T
he annual MAC Golf Championship was Sept. 25-26 at The Reserve
Vineyards and Golf Club. The women teed it up on Saturday on the most difficult South Course, while the men played the South Course on Saturday and the North Course on Sunday. While new champions have been
crowned, it was too late at press time to share the final results. Check an upcoming issue of The Winged M for the final results. The new golf display located on the base- ment level across from Studio I features the winners in all categories; be sure to check it out. The annual year-end 19th Hole dinner
was Sept. 29. This fun event included a featured speaker and served as a format to honor those recently crowned club cham- pions.
Bandon Dunes Join fellow golfers for the club’s annual
fall golf outing at Bandon Dunes. The competitively priced package includes two nights’ lodging, two breakfasts, one dinner, and most importantly, two rounds of golf. This year the group plays both days on the new Old MacDonald Course, which has featured prominently in many golf articles and is already in the top 10 golf courses in the country. Check with Athletic Services to see if there are any remaining spots.
Reciprocal golf The Golf Committee continues to seek
reciprocal golfing privileges for MAC members. Stay tuned as the committee finalizes those agreements.
Tip from the pro Chris Rogers, director of golf at
The Reserve and Golf Club, shares the following tip. When practicing or playing golf, golfers
should remember that their primary task is to swing the golf club. Too often, golfers get into the mindset of trying to hit at the golf ball, and all of their effort and energy becomes focused on one point. The golf swing is a continuous motion,
from start to finish, and striking the golf ball at impact is just one point in that motion. Although the moment of impact is an important point, it is still just one point nonetheless. Golfers should focus their energies on swinging the golf club to their finish position, not using the club to hit at the golf ball. By adopting this philosophy, golfers
should find greater consistency with all of their clubs, from putter to driver. For more information on MAC golf,
