ou know you’re in Syracuse when you see the classy, clean design of the Arts and Crafts movement everywhere. From bungalow homes scattered
throughout the Salt City to the incredible designs gracing the facade of the State Tower Building, evidence of the stripped-down architectural style can be found around almost every corner. Even in the pages of the Syracuse New Times.
With inspiration taken from the
design made popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, we present to you Best of Syracuse 2010. In this modern vein, we posted the entire ballot this year on our website,
www.syracusenewtimes.com, and promoted the bejesus out of the poll on our Facebook page. The result? The most ballots ever received and counted, gamefully, by a crew at Testone, Marshall and Discenza CPAs, a Syracuse accounting firm headquartered in picturesque Franklin Square.
As usual, The New Times offered an
impressive array of prizes that go to randomly drawn winners who took the effort to fill out a ballot. The winners are: Maryanne Dowling, Grand Prize, four water park passes and two-night stay at Greek Peak Mountain Resort/ Hope Lake Lodge & Indoor Water Park; Cyndie Long, First Prize, Retreat package from La Fleur de Beaute Day Spa; and Keely McCullough, Second Prize, Syracuse-themed package of gift certificates.
Best of Syracuse committee: Michael
Davis, Molly English-Bowers, Gina Fortino, James Rutkey, Lisa Whitmore. Best of Syracuse writers: Bill DeLapp, Molly English- Bowers, Ed Griffin-Nolan and Tom Kahley; photographer: Michael Davis.
