Nina Vest Salmon ’93M.Ed. received the 2010 Elsie Ervin Bock Award for Excellence in Citizen- ship at Lynchburg College inMay. She is an assistant professor of English at LCwhere she has been on the faculty since 1997. She has had a lifelong interest in race and


oppression and been involved in Episcopal Church programs on anti-racism.Her commitment to under- standing and combating injustice led to her interest in Lynchburg’sHarlem-Renaissance poet Anne Spencer. With two colleagues, she also founded a service-based learning community in Lynchburg that allows LCstudents to participate in service projects at a variety of schools and organizations.Nina lives in Lynchburg.


KimberlyWells Yeaman ’93M.Ed. earned an endorse- ment in school administration and supervision from LongwoodUniversity and the VirginiaDepartment of Education. She is employed byDanville Public Schools. Kimberly lives inDanville, Va.


CarynCaldwell Brown ’96 earned amaster of science in nursing and healthcare administration from the University of Phoenix in December 2009. She is a clinical educator at CentraHealth in Lynchburg,where she lives.

Amy ButlerMallow’02was named elementary school teacher of the year for Bedford County Public Schools. She is a teacher atHuddleston Elementary School in Huddleston, Va.,where she lives.


RobinMassieWheeler ’02 received recognition as a National Board Certified Teacher fromtheNational Board for Professional Teaching Standards in fall 2009 in the area of literacy: reading-language arts. She is currentlyworking as a reading specialist at Temperance Elementary School in Amherst County, where she and her husband Edward “Eddie” Jr. ’87 reside.


HaywoodHand ’04M.Ed.was chosen as the new Amherst CountyHigh School principal in Amherst, Va. Haywoodwas a teacher inHarrisonburg City Schools, an athletic director in Buena Vista, Va., and the principal at ParryMcCluerHigh School in Buena Vista.


ColleenMcBride ’04, ’09M.Ed.was named teacher of the year at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School in Forest, Va.,where she is a first-grade teacher.


Jennifer “Jenny” Steel ’05 graduated fromtheCollege of New Jersey with a master’s degree in secondary education. She is an assistant director forHuntington Learning Center and resides in Jackson, Ocean County, N.J.
