So are you ready for the hoped-for onslaught? Yes Christmas is fast approaching – I saw my first display of Christmas wrapping paper in August and Christmas card displays are all over the place. Before too long the strains of Noddy Holder will be wafting through the shopping malls – oh joy! The commercialisation of Christmas is something that grates with me. But there’s no denying that, for the retail trade (including Christian retailers), it’s the most important trading season of the year. For many the next few weeks may even prove to be make-or- break. My prayer for you all is that you might at least get regular supplies of product to enable you to fulfil customer orders. So a busy time ahead, but I hope you will
find time to read through this issue of Christian Marketplace in which you’ll find Catherine Larner’s review of a range of Christmas product alongside the second in our Legal Eagle series from Rob Andrews and a new column from the Christian Suppliers Group. Our regulars are here too, with Amy Boucher Pye following up on her fiction article last time round with a discussion with a fiction-commissioning editor. If you’re still a bit ‘iffy’ about fiction read on. And don’t skip the feature about Ray of Hope, a great
story of what can happen through a ‘chance’ encounter. Thank you for your continuing encouragement
with regard to our consumer magazine The Christian Marketplace … at your fingertips; we do appreciate hearing from you. And hats off to Dave Lock from Manna Christian Centre in Streatham who has just become the first retailer to order 1,000 copies of the magazine. We’re glad to support you all and hope the next issue will do just that in time for Christmas. And talking of support, December sees the
launch of the latest ‘Narnia’ film ‘Voyage of the Dawn Treader’ and we are going to be running an on-line competition for your customers to win a selection of VDT books from HarperCollins (see page 9). Details will be in the next issue of The Christian Marketplace so make sure your customers know about this and enter - it could mean additional publicity for your shop.

Letters Thank You
Dear Clem, I just wanted to write and congratulate you on
the interview with Phil Vischer in the August issue of Christian Marketplace magazine. A superb article and greatly encouraging. I’ll certainly be buying a copy of his book Me, Myself and Bob.
It’s always good to hear how God can turn
situations around, and how important it is to concentrate on what EXACTLY God has called us to do! I also wanted to thank you for Chris Jewell's
latest article in the same issue. We as churches in Rotherham are in the process of starting up a Christian bookshop in the town, and his ‘media’ article has proved very useful and timely. Every blessing Sharon Newson Resources Manager,

www.christianmarketplace.org.uk FOREWORD & LETTERS The Christian Marketplace works
Hi Clem, Thanks for supplying our bulk order of The Christian Marketplace consumer magazine for the Frontiers Wessex Conference. The magazine was very well received, partly because the Bookshop & Coffee Lounge were adjacent and in an area designated 'The Marketplace'. We took advantage and placed copies on
tables (with permission from the organisers). We know it worked as customers came to us with copies in their hands to ask for titles featured. Bless you!
John Robertson Bridge Bookshop, Exeter.
