Courses and bay of St Andrews. With an informal atmosphere and a menu offering home style cooking such as haddock in beer batter, and steak, it was low key and enjoyable.
A brisk walk back to the main hotel led to a blissed out sleep in the most comfortable hotel bed I’ve slept on for a long time.
We awoke for breakfast and headed to the Squire restaurant to indulge in the tempting breakfast buffet. Before checking out, I had one final treatment at the spa, the radiant anti-ageing facial - 60 minutes of decadence that tones, refines and deeply hydrates the skin with protein-rich caviar and powerful antioxidants.
You may have noticed one glaring omission from a report on St Andrews. The golf, of course. But a stay at the Fairmont St Andrews reminds you that whilst golf is never far from the mind, there is a lot more to enjoy here, especially if the idea of a relaxing and pampering visit sounds more tempting that a round of 18 holes.
• A 10 per cent discount on spa retail products
