EFFECTIVE WITH this October, 2010 issue, Independent Retailer has now replaced Cover as the name of this magazine, to more accurately refl ect the readership and target audience of the publication, and to clearly indentify the editorial focus.
For over 20 years, independent retail store owners of all kinds have received and relied on Cover, now Independent Retailer, for in-depth news and feature stories devoted to the business of independent re- tailing. When the magazine was launched in 1989 as Cover, the name was chosen as an acronym of, “Closeout & Variety Merchandise Editorial Report.” Since that time, however, the magazine’s editorial content has increasingly concentrated on all as- pects of running an independent retail store, without segmenting closeouts or merchandise separately from overall retail operations. In short, Independent Retailer is the most accurate description of both the general business focus of the magazine and the occupation of most of our over 50,000 readers.
