WHAT’S NEW? Up-Down 3G
WHAT DOES IT DO? The two up and down converters that Crystal Vision will be showing at IBC work with 3Gb/s, HD and SD sources, can handle four groups of embedded audio and include aspect ratio conversion and the option of integrated fibre input/output connectivity, accord- ing to the company. Up-Down 3G allows flexible up, down and cross conversions between 3Gb/s, HD and SD sources and includes spe- cial features to allow studios to easily operate in HD and SD at the same time – with the ability to per- form two different conversions simultaneously.

WHAT’S NEW? Optribution
WHAT DOES IT DO? Optribution, or optical transmis- sion and distribution of RF signals is the cornerstone of DEV Systemtechnik’s participation in IBC. Optribution is DEV Systemtechnik’s approach to the ongoing development of the sig- nal distribution infrastructure. It applies DEV’s RF expertise to the optical system parts and enables a homogenous and seamless growth of the user’s infrastruc- ture, realised with system compo- nents from one source, according to DEV. At IBC, DEV says it will release no fewer than 54 new products in three system families for the optical transmission, reception and distribution of RF signals.

WHAT DO THEY DO? Making its European debut at IBC, Dielectric’s DLP low-power anten- na series features horizontally polarised antennas in a number of standard directional azimuth
patterns, with an average power rating of 1.6 kW. Designed to pro- vide broadcasters with a low weight- and wind-load system for mobile media transmissions, dis- tributed transmission systems, and translators, the DLP features an eight-bay, single-module design. Described as a versatile and reliable antenna, the TUA-L is ideal for single and multiplexed stations with unique pattern requirements, according to Dielectric. It provides a typical VSWR of under 1.05:1 per channel and 1.1:1 across the entire 20- channel bandwidth and is avail- able with customised beam tilt and null fill for multi-panel arrays. The antennas have been designed for severe environments including strong winds.

WHAT DO THEY DO? Playout specialist the Digital Media Centre will demonstrate on-demand systems and the play- out of 3D content. The DMC stand will include a demonstration of the latest highly efficient systems for delivering channel on-demand content for broadcasters. In addi- tion, the DMC will be showcasing the delivery of 3D content.

WHAT’S NEW? Flux capture and preprocessing cards; live adaptive streaming encoders; encoding and transcod- ing for file-based workflows.
WHAT DO THEY DO? Flux HD boards are the first cards optimised for encoding and streaming to feature dual-link and 3G-SDI input support, according to Digital Rapids. Working with the Digital Rapids Stream soft- ware, Flux cards enable real-time, multi-format media capture, encoding and streaming for appli- cations including post production, internet TV, IPTV, VOD, mobile video and archive. StreamZHD Live ABR encodes and streams live HD and SD content for deliv- ery through adaptive streaming technologies including HTTP Dynamic Streaming for Adobe Flash Player. For multi-channel, enterprise-class deployments, multiple StreamZHD Live ABR encoders can be combined with the Digital Rapids Broadcast Manager software for manage- ment, automation, scheduling, monitoring and failover. A new version of Broadcast Manager will be unveiled, with new features including automation for an expanded range of third-party video routers to manage incom- ing sources. Adaptive streaming capabilities will also be featured in a new version of the TouchStream portable live streaming appliance. A new ver- sion of the software for the StreamZHD multi-format encod- ing system will be introduced. StreamZHD provides capture and encoding to multiple simultane- ous output formats. A new ver- sion of the Transcode Manager distributed media transcoding software will also be unveiled. New features include automated ‘commercial black’ removal and a new user interface style. New enhancements to the MediaMesh content delivery system, include expanded output format support, multi-clip playlisting and extended capabilities in the portal-based MediaMesh Web Submitter.
