Born in Russia in 1965 on the northern edge of Moscow, Vladimir Kush began showing an incredible artistic ability at the young age of three or four. At that time, he was consciously aware of the vast area of the snow-covered moun- tains and Russian plains that stretched outwardly from his community, and he dreamed of this space and its infinite possibilities. These dreams fueled his vivid imagi- nation as he began to create art which would eventually be called “Metaphorical Realism”. Kush entered the Moscow

Higher Art and Craft School at age 17; however, a year later he was conscripted. After military ser- vice and graduating from the Institute of Fine Arts, the artist painted portraits on Arbat Street to support his family during the hard times in Russia. In 1987, Kush began to take part in exhibitions organized by the Union

“Last Supper”

of Artists. At a show in Coburg, Ger- many in 1990, nearly all of his dis- played paintings sold, and after closing the exhibition, he flew to Los Angeles, where 20 of his works were exhibited, and began his “American Odyssey.” In 1993, a series of international exhibi- tions and installations from Hong Kong

to Hawaii generated success for Kush that surpassed all expectations. Today, his admirers seek out and visit his work from all corners of the world. Kush’s “Metaphorical Realism”

ing. Presenting the evasive and ever- changing world through allegory and metaphor makes it possible to bridge two widely separated subjects—two seemingly incompatible things. Kush believes that realistic paintings display the artist’s professional skill, drawing the viewer in to accept the impossible images enough to see the meta- phors in them and explore the different layers of meaning. We invite you to stop by Ex-

clusive Collections Gallery in the Fashion Valley Shopping Center on Friday, October 8th urday, October 9th

from 6–9 pm for a special artist appearance

by Vladimir Kush. Feel the wonder and awe that is evoked by experiencing his work. Both fascinating to the eye and compelling to the mind, each painting allows the viewer to admire the image represented and also puzzle over its deeper meaning.
