HEBREW LESSON The Ten Lost Tribes of Israel
“It came about when all laer"f.yI, Yis’rael (Israel) heard that ~['b.r"y", Yarav’am (Jeroboam) had returned, that they sent and called him to the assembly and made him king over all laer"f.yI, Yis’rael. None but the tribe of hd"Why>, Y’hudah (Judah) [along with !ymiy"n>Bi, Bin’yamiyn (Benjamin)] followed the house of dwID", David.” a ~ykil'm. M'lakhiym Alef (1Kings) 12:20[21] (NASB)
Around 930 B.C., in an act of utter rebellion against God, all but Judah seceded from Israel, ultimately to be lost through captivity and—eventually—assimila- tion into the nations. The Kingdom of Judah absorbed Benjamin (and possibly Simeon) and any remnant of the other tribes, which included the double-portion for Joseph—Ephraim and Manassah. Levi, since he had no land-inheritance, is likely not included among those exiled and “lost,” listed below.
