These destinations include the vast majority of Islamic nations. The Australian livestock and meat industry is committed to
food safety, integrity and traceability – our focus is customer demand. Australia is one of the world’s largest red meat and
livestock exporters and has an internationally recognised status of being free of all major epidemic diseases, including Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE), Scrapie and Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD). To maintain Australia’s high product standards, the
Australian livestock industry and all levels of government have worked together to develop stringent standards and systems, designed to ensure the integrity and traceability of the product. These standards and systems are based on an assessment
of risk and sound science to meet the requirements of our international customers.
Guaranteed Halal Islamic consumers place paramount importance on the religious requirements for the production of food. For this reason all cattle, sheep and goats processed in
Australia destined for the Middle East market are slaughtered under the Australian Government Supervised Halal program, by Muslims approved by accredited Islamic certifying authorities in accredited processing plants, according to strict Islamic and Shar’iah law. This program is guaranteed under the Australian Federal
Governmental legislation, and administered by Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS). The Australian meat industry has adopted strict procedures
to ensure only certified Halal meat products are available for export. This is why we are able to say that our red meat is ‘Guaranteed Halal’. All shipments of Halal meat are accompanied with the
relevant documentation that bears the name and signature of the Halal certifier. The certifier is recognised by the appropriate Islamic council in Australia and registered with the Australian Government. This very important step ensures
