international students and skilled migrants to access education and employment opportunities in Australia,” says IELTS Australia Director John Belleville. “Many professional organisations also require an IELTS score to consider and process registrations.” It’s clear that the attraction of Australia
as an education destination continues to grow. In September 2009, a reported 585,186 international students were enrolled in Australian universities, vocational education training institutions, schools and English language courses. Integrating the four aspects of English
proficiency, IELTS tests include reading, writing, listening and speaking sections. It’s only in IELTS that candidates undertake a personal one-on-one speaking test with an examiner. “There are a number of reasons why

IELTS for study, professional registration and migration An IELTS band score is a mandatory pre- requisite to apply for a Section 457 Visa in Australia. A variety of professional associations also require an IELTS band from professionals seeking careers in Australia. For example, the Australian Medical Council requires overseas applicants to provide an IELTS band score for acceptance of membership into the Council. Close to 6000 organisations and
faculties worldwide recognise IELTS as a secure, valid and reliable indicator of true- to-life ability to communicate in English for education, immigration and professional accreditation. Jointly owned and managed by British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and the University of Cambridge ESOL examinations (Cambridge ESOL), IELTS testing is available at more than 500
