Irish Festival Thanks Sponsors &

Volunteers for Successful Year The 27th Annual Irish Festival on the Miramichi closed on July 18th with a Eucharistic Celebration, a thoughtful and reflective way to close four full days of exciting activities at several venues in the city. There were many highlights: beautiful weather on theWaterfront Thursday evening; a warm reception of the Minister of Finance at Friday’s Opening Ceremonies; a huge family walking parade and a sold-out crowd at the Arena on Saturday night; the list goes on and on. Suffice to say, the Festival was an enormous success, the credit for which is extended to the sponsors, volunteers, and patrons who make it possible every year.

We depend significantly on the kindness of local businesses for their financial support, and each year a long list of them (many of whom have been sponsors for many years) step forward to help us put on the best Festival possible. Chief among them are the three levels of government (the Department of Canadian Heritage, the Province of New Brunswick, and the City of Miramichi) and Molson.

Equally important are the many dozens of volunteers who make it all happen: whether they work for three hours or three months, it all makes a difference. Each year, dozens of people offer to sell or take tickets, serve beer, decorate the rink, paint the streets of Chatham with shamrocks, count money, or perform any number of other tasks.

That being said, consider getting involved with our organization this fall; or recommend it to a friend! We’re always looking for new ideas and helpful volunteers! Feel free to contact us at irishfes@nb.sympatico.ca or (506)778-8810.

A truly important thank you must also be extended to all of you, our patrons and supporters, who buy tickets and attend our various events each and every summer. You inspire us to continue to celebrate our culture in this way just by showing up in such great numbers. Thank you to you all! Slainte! Barry McKenzie
