We’ve got to prove what the impacts will be, and how we hope to solve them before anyone will provide assistance. Each step we take addresses

funding resources to help grow our job base and prepare our current workforce to secure those jobs. The $15 million National Emergency Grant we received is intended primarily to provide businesses an added incentive to hire within the next year. The bulk of the grant is devoted to these On-The-Job training funds, which offset workers’ salaries during the first three months of employment while they are training.

Stepping Up As we expend countless man hours on special projects we

must implement to come out of the aerospace crisis, we also must pay attention to the issues that workforce boards were created to solve across the broad range of industries. These are harder to address, especially when receiving millions in funds to target the big crisis. Right now, Brevard Workforce aerospace career counselors stationed at Kennedy Space Center each have an average caseload that is approximately 12 times the national average. Our career centers are busier than ever, with more than 5,000 transitioning aerospace workers registered on www.launchnewcareers.com and almost 13,000 walk-in job seekers per month in our three main countywide centers.

Please Be Patient, We’re Not Finished Yet Due to the success we have had in winning grants, Brevard

Workforce is able to provide cutting–edge, results-driven programs to job seekers and area businesses. Unfortunately, funding to ramp-up for the volume of workforce cases we are anticipating is not as readily available, so the Board, the staff and those who serve Brevard Workforce are in high-gear as we refine our practices, double- up efforts and simply work harder to meet the needs of our community. With their help, and the community’s understanding and patience, we will continue to move forward incrementally as we do our part in building foundations for the future. u
