The GTA Construction Report – September 2010 – PAGE A5 BCA meets with PC Leader Tim Hudak STAFF WRITER – GTA Construction Report

Ontario Progressivee Conservative party leader Tim Hudak has met with the Barrie Construction Association’s (BCA) Board of Directors. Discussions at the Aug. 5 meeting at the BCA offices surrounded issues facing the ICI Sector in the Barrie area. These issues included Bill 119 which amends the Workplace Safety Insurance Act to extend premiums to owners of com- panies, the needed reform of the Construction Lien Act to protect the subcontractor’s lien rights and the timely release of holdbacks.

Hudak is preparing his platform for next years’ election and sought to learn about the challenges of Barrie’s ICI sec- tor.

BCA directors and Hudak also discussed the WSIB’s un- funded liability, named insured rules, the Ministry of Labour, infrastructure spending, apprenticeship ratios, the aging workforce and union card certification.
