PET works because the body metabolizes glucose (sugar) and uses it for energy. In PET, a radioisotope


called FluoroDeoxyGlucose(FDG) is injected into the blood stream where it can circulate throughout the body. The body’s individual cells absorb the FDG as they would normal glucose. When this occurs, Fluorine-18 (the radioactive element), is trapped in the cells. In about one hour the body absorbs enough FDG to make an image. Abnormal cells or tumor cells metabolize glucose at a much higher rate than normal cells. Therefore, the FDG will be concentrated in tumor cells. CNY PET is a collaborative effort between the Radiologists at St. Joseph’s Imaging Associates and the SUNY Upstate Medical Center. The facility is overseen by Board Certified Radiologists with experience in PET and has imaged more than 15,000 patients.

He helps them tune their musical ear and learn to read music in a way children enjoy. At Doors To Music, small classes provide excellent instruction with the added fun and motivation of


making music with friends. Students CAN help each other! It’s been shown that most children will practice more to please their friends in class than they will work for a teacher at a private lesson.
