a trail guide training workshop on Thursday, Sept. 23, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The nature cen- ter is looking for individuals to share their knowledge of nature with hundreds of chil- dren that visit Beaver Lake during the week and on the weekends. The training session will teach the basics
of interpretation and how to lead a group, as well as natural history and teaching points to be found along the nature center’s Bog Trail. After completing the course, volunteers who are at least 18 years old will guide elemen-
tary-level students along the trails of Beaver Lake; advance registration for the course is required. The nature center, an Onondaga County
Park, is located at 8477 E. Mud Lake Road, three miles west of Baldwinsville off Route 370. For more information, call 638-2519 or visit

Bag It! AllWegmans stores
have stopped selling two designs of its reus- able shopping bags: the Green Pea and the Holiday 2009. Pre- liminary testing on a limited number of bags suggests there may be elevated levels of lead in those two designs only. “Customers can
continue to safely use both of those designs,” said Jo Natale, director of media relations for Wegmans. “This is not a food safety or children’s health concern. The eventual dis- posal of the bags is the only issue, from an environmental perspective.” Signs have been posted in Wegmans
stores and on their website to let custom- ers know that the bags are safe to use, but should be returned to Wegmans prior to disposal. At that time, Wegmans will replace
the bag with another design and will prop- erly dispose of the returned bag. “We decided to discontinue these two
designs out of an abundance of caution and because of our commitment to sustainability and the environment,” continued Natale. “It’s important that consumers know that both of these designs are safe to use and reuse, as intended.”
