Hudson Heat 14U Cooperstown Hall of Fame Champions! submitted by Bob Guessferd
When the Hudson Heat 14U softball team began its 2010-2011 season in August of 2009, they never imagined that they would end the year as Cooperstown Hall of Fame Classic Tournament Champions. This team, consisting of Marissa Cammarano, Katie Gildea, Christina Guessferd, Stephanie Lovett, Alyssa Moguaro, Hannah Paitchel, Emily Paquin, Megan Radziewicz, Nicole Scotti, Cori Simons, Cori Sousa and Alex Trevains, made the decision in December of 2009 to forego any invitations to National tournaments in order to accept an invitation to play in Cooperstown at the Inaugural Season of Diamond Dreams, a week long softball experience including two tournaments against teams from around the country. Fundraising efforts, including a comedy night, a

calendar sale and a tournament program fundraiser, provided the means and the girls did the rest, ending a very successful tournament season by arriving in Cooperstown on August 6 ready to play against the best. They made their mark early, winning three out of four skills competitions on the first day. The weekend Cooperstown Classic tournament ended with the Heat finishing as

Men’s Softball Team. The good times just continued to roll as the Sousa Team never skipped a beat from 2009. This year, we added two heavy hitters in Big Bat Billy Girginis and Smooth “Fantasy Man” Tobin Dozois. Along with the same cast, this team just seemed to step up at the right moment. With guidance from the legendary Mr. Camp, Sousa was the team to beat right out of the gate. As I look back on the season, I recall a simple quote that sums up this group of individuals, ”Teamwork: Simply stated, it is less me and more we,” and that, folks, is the simple ingredient that put Sousa over the top. We finished the season 27-4 with some fierce competition throughout. Once again, thanks to Dave Yates and the supporting cast for an amazing season, as well as Veria Pizza for keeping us carbed up for each game. Keep up the good work! I have a vision of three-peat dancing in my head.

runners-up to a tough Mass Drifters team. After a day off and a visit to the National Baseball Hall of Fame, play resumed on Tuesday with the Hall of Fame Classic. The Championship came down to a best of three, winner take all series against the very same Mass Drifters. After a tough 6-3 loss under the lights Tuesday night, the Heat roared back with back to back one run wins to capture the Hall of Fame Classic championship. The Hudson Heat 14U team wholeheartedly thanks all those who helped them have this once in a lifetime experience, from those who contributed to our fundraisers to our parents and coaches who sacrificed so much to make it happen.
