donated to different Vermont based programs.

HH: It is really great how Phish is so much more than just music. Their music helps people and the world! MB: Absolutely. I mean the name Waterwheel came from when we would set up in the concourse of an arena and these droves of people would be passing through like water and our booth would be the wheel and it puts out energy and moves out from there.

HH: What charities have you donated money to in the past? MB: By and large we try to keep them very grassroots where we can see the donations go directly into pro- grams. A few highlights along the way are the Lake Michi- gan Federation based in Chicago. They have done a lot of great work to clean up the great lakes. We have worked with the League of Conversation Voters a couple of times. The Conservation Law Foundation are one of our favorite charities to work with. They do incredible work through litigation trying to protect our environment

HH: What is something specific that you have seen come from Waterwheel’s donations? MB: We have seen so many things! We have seen addi- tions to battered women’s shelters. We have seen law- suits that were stalled due to lack of funding get pushed

through. Even more than that, what I’m most proud of is seeing people from the community seeing that activism is not something that is off in the distance. It is in your life day to day and they may live in this commu- nity and have no idea these programs are even happening until they come to see Phish. They get intrigued by the autographed posters or the merchandise and they end up signing up to be a volunteer and giving hundreds of hours a year to some of these organizations. That to me is one of the best things we do.

HH: It is a big snowball effect of awesomeness! Thank you so much for all that you do!!! MB: Thank you!
