Castle, Gardens,
The nursery was established by a Frenchman in 1920, hence its name, and produced a variety of stock. But 30 years ago it switched to concentrating on growing young grafted plants of Acer palmatum, otherwise called Japanese maples, and today is probably the largest grower for the retail and wholesale market.
Close to the Somerset/Devon border, Kittisford Trees is a small nursery specialising in native and exotic broadleaved trees. The native stock is field grown, while the ornamental and exotic species are mainly containerised.
The stock is all raised on site or locally, and owner Richard Wood makes the point that if planted within a radius of the nursery, the trees will be well adapted to local climate and soil conditions.
