Alvirne’s offense took nine shots on goal in the first half, but could only manage four shots on goal in the second half. KC Amadi and Luke Mertins were denied by the Dover keeper on breakaway opportunities, but John Collishaw finished a cross from Richie Eaton for the lone tally of the game at the 13:24 mark in the first half. The Broncos came out a little flat in the beginning of the second half, but picked up the pace in the latter portion of the half. They managed four good shots on goal, including a second shot by Luke Mertins that hit the post. Junior goalkeeper Jimmy Tomaswick was not tested in the first half, but used every inch of his six-foot, five-inch frame to make two outstanding saves in the second half. In the second game of the season, the Broncos suffered a tough loss against Pinkerton, 3-1, on Tuesday, August 31. This evens their record at 1-1 on the young season. The Broncos played a majority of the game in their defensive half, but did manage to convert on one of their six shots on goal when Luke Mertins found the back of the net on a throw in from Matt Fellows. making 16 saves off of 40 Pinkerton shots on goal. The junior varsity squad suffered their second loss of the season with identical 2-0 game scores. The Broncos will play their next home game on Thursday, September 9, when they host Concord High School.
