Buehner


Buehner receives prestigious graduate internship

ecent Black Hills State University graduate Tara Buehner, Class of ’07, was selected to serve as the 2007-2008 Ward Neff Intern in her first year as a graduate student. This prestigious internship will provide Buehner a $15,500 stipend and her tuition will be waived for the year. As a Ward Neff Intern, Buehner will look through a series of news websites seeking media-related news and opinion pieces to compile the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) PressNotes, an online summary of media-related news that is sent to nearly 1,000 media professionals nationwide each day. The internship program, named for former Sigma Delta Chi President Ward Neff, is awarded to one journalism program nationally every two years. With a value of nearly $40,000, the internship funds two one-year graduate fellowships, a faculty supervisor stipend and travel to the SPJ national convention


and journalism conference. Buehner, who is originally from Spearfish, received her honors’ bachelor’s degree in multimedia and communica- tion art from BHSU in the spring of 2007. During her undergraduate studies, Buehner was involved with the University’s award-winning newspaper, Today, and the campus radio station, television station, and advertising agency. She also worked for two professors as an office assistant and worked as a freelance designer for various websites, logos, and other small publications while pursuing her degree.


In addition to her media interest, Buehner has an enthusiasm for health and wellness. She has completed two half- marathons and would someday like to run a full marathon.

Amber Butler, Class of ’06, and Phillip Rivera will marry summer of 2008. Amber is pursuing a master’s degree at New Mexico State University, Las Cruces.


Chandra DeSimone, Class of ’06, and Joseph Kiley, attending, mar- ried August 24, 2007. Chandra works as a cus- tomer service manager at Wal-Mart. The couple lives in Spearfish.


Ryan Graff, attended, and Stacey Sedustine married July 28, 2007. Ryan is employed by the Community Food Banks of South Dakota.


Corrin Grueb, Class of ’02, and Tim Lord mar- ried October 13, 2007. Corrin is an accountant. The couple lives in Rapid City.


Jennifer “Jen” Hanson, Class of ’07, and Heath Ennis married June 23, 2007. The couple lives in Rapid City.

Class of ’07, married June 2, 2007. Jessica teaches kindergarten in Albin. William is a Social Studies teacher and coach at the Junior High/High School in Pine Bluffs. The couple lives in Pine Bluffs, Wyo.
