or many pensioners retirement from meaningful employment means pottering about in the rose garden and taking
things easy.
Irishman Alan Smurfit had other ideas when he sold his interest in the family business four years ago. First he decided to have a shot at the tournament scene and on his first visit to the World Series picked up a winner’s bracelet and $400,000
in a pot limit Omaha event.
Then he decamped from one of his family homes in Florida and bought a flash apartment in Las Vegas. Now, at the age of 67, he has become engaged to Mexican beauty Guadalupe Santiago with whom he is expected to tie the knot in the not too distant future.
