- WITH MARK McCLUSKEY

Mark McCluskey is a professional poker player who lives with his wife in Worcestershire. He has had 3 WSOP cashes with a 15th (H.O.R.S.E) a 27th (PLH) and one WSOP final table (NLH) and in July he won the Liverpool leg of the 2010 Coral British Masters Poker Tour. His lifetime earnings in live poker exceed $250,000.

Length of time playing?

Playing for fun - 35 years. Playing seriously - 2 years. What would you do in another life?

I’d be a chef. I love to experiment and to cook for friends and family.

Are you lucky or unlucky on a scale of 0 to 10 (0 = unlucky)?

A 10. I have a wonderful wife, a great country house and great friends. Besides, if it wasn’t for luck I wouldn’t win anything.

What do you do for fun?

I love to travel especially to remote places. I’ve been to over 50 countries. My wife and I spent six weeks on the Amazon travelling by canoe.

The poker fairy will grant you one wish: What would it be? To be 30 years younger and always have the button (OK that’s two but I can’t decide!)

You have just won a €1 million. What will you do next day? Call my backer. He’s interested in those kind of things! Then I’d go and see some of Argentina which is up there on my list.

What is your biggest fear?

Heights. I bungee-jumped off the Victoria Falls bridge just to confirm that and sure enough I didn’t like it.

How much money is enough? Not much actually. I don’t obsess about money. Enough to live comfortably and maybe have a bolt hole in a warmer climate. To be able to see enough of my friends – some of whom are around the world – is more than enough.

Where do you see yourself in five years time? I’d like to be playing at a higher level and also doing some coaching. I’d also like to be involved a poker-related business but nothing has sparked my interest enough yet.
