One thing that is common to all the posts is the quality of the images. On a blog which provides a quick fix of loveliness every day, a picture is definitely worth a thousand words. The photographs are sometimes Kev’s own taken, for example, at craft fairs but his primary source is the internet. Kev explains, “Initially I asked for submissions but had to stop because of the poor quality of many of the images received. Some makers had the most fantastic items, but were promoting them with muddy grey photographs.” It’s that perennial challenge, not just for Kev but for all of us who make and look to sell online, to find images that do justice to the items.

I was curious to know, as a man operating in what seems to be a more female environment, whether Kev consciously selects items by other men? “I do notice the work of men more, probably just because there are fewer of them, but every piece I feature is chosen on its own merits. The majority of items listed are made by women simply because there are more women crafting. I would guess that more than 95% of the readers of I Love Handmade are female, so my picks always seem to have that female bias. Really it’s irrelevant, a beautiful item is a beautiful item!”
