FOCUS: I Love Handmade /


Kev Connell by Michiko Yasue of www.myfuroshiki.blogspot.com I love handmade and probably spend far too much time browsing the many blogs focused wholly or in part on promoting the work of other crafters. Some, such as the Folksy Fridays posts, focus on what is listed on that particular site; others, such as Cuteable, select from a broader population but around a general theme. One of my favourites is I Love Handmade, a blog dedicated solely to the daily celebration and promotion of the best of handmade in all its forms.


night, is the in-house photographer for Tracy’s Ruby Spirit Designs handmade jewellery and, of course, scours the globe for the best of handmade. I spoke to Kev for insight into the challenges of running I Love Handmade and what he looks for in selecting items to feature.


I Love Handmade is the work of Kev Connell, aka Dig The Earth. Yorkshire born and bred, Kev lives there with his wife, Tracy, and two sons. As well as running the artwork studio for a design agency during the day, he creates graphical giclée art prints and handmade greetings cards by

Given everything else that he does, an obvious question was how Kev manages to maintain his evident enthusiasm for I Love Handmade, “I’m really passionate about promoting the handmade movement. I love to buy things that are unusual or have a limited run, and appreciate all the work and the care that has gone into them. They deserve a wider audience. Promoting new discoveries is its own reward.” I Love Handmade arose from Kev’s heavy involvement as a blog writer for the Coriandr online
