vegetable plot, tasty seasonal meals are planned. The usual debate about Apple and Blackberry pie or should it be crumble, takes place. Harvesting time has arrived, it’s on a small scale but the sense of achievement is huge. The “Lifecycle” of plants has now become an important part of our lives.


Of course this involves composting and there is talk of a Wormery (shivery shivers), apparently an amazing world on many levels. Worms are quite fussy eaters and they need a balanced diet and you need to remember a baking hot spot could have horrible consequences. We have heard that the compost worms produce is like no other and the worm juice on tap - delightful - well, what more can I say.


Plants with an interesting structure are dominant in our garden, we love plants that stand out and say, “look at me! I’m not here for long but boy am I worth looking at” and you can’t get much better than the Pumpkin or Sunflower for standing out from the crowd.


Growing a trailing pumpkin is great fun; they can grow to huge proportions and get way out of hand. You can almost see them move as they romp along the path.


Harvesting the Pumpkin is a great family day in, which we now plan for. Our latest family heirloom is the very large, fluted flan tin bought especially for and only ever used for the Pumpkin Pie. Harvesting, cutting, peeling, scooping, chopping and steaming is a morning’s work. Some
