Dance Nights Include Variety of Popular Music

AC welcomes a swinging sensation, The Notables, to the club Saturday, Oct. 23. Members may dance to popular favorites from the 1920s through the ’50s: swing, Las Vegas, Broadway, American songbook, early rock and roll, and a few country classics.


Led by drummer and Origin recording


artist Todd Bishop, the Notables have been delighting listeners and dancers throughout the Pacifi c Northwest since the group formed in 2003, during a run as the house band on the Queen of the West riverboat. In 2005 they released their CD of swing and jazz favorites, The Notables Play all the Hits. The band is joined this evening by vocalist Jen Bernard of Portland vocal swing band The Stolen Sweets. Bernard has shared bills with such illustrious acts as Emmylou Harris, McKinley, Patty Griffi n and the Decemberists. Featured musicians are Tim Willcox, saxophone; Dan Gaynor, piano; Bill Athens, bass; and Bishop, drums.


There is ballroom dance instruction from 7:30-8:30 p.m. and the band plays from 8:30-11 p.m. Quick Register ME561


Swing with The Pranksters


The Pranksters are an 17-piece big band that plays music from the swing era, as well as popular music from the past four decades, in the MAC Grand Ballroom


Saturday, Nov. 13 from 8:30-11 p.m. Swing dance instruction is led by Bob and Nancy Laughland from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Quick Register ME562
