ONCE UPON A TIME IN 2005 | 39

Teddy Joseph

was a bar manager at Ricks. I’m still with my girlfriend and we now live together in Stockbridge, just down the road from The Raconteur, the new bar I set up with Jamie and Nick who I used to work with at Montpeliers. We opened in November last year.

The biggest change I’ve noticed over the last five years is the increase in independent bars that have opened across the city like my own, all adding something different to the Edinburgh scene.

About i-on: I see it constantly in cafes, bars and restaurants and it’s something I read every month. It just gives a complete overview of what’s going on in the city, and provides ideas for shopping, eating and drinking.

Describe i-on in three words: Stylish, informative, essential.

Week so it was all exciting. Since then, apart from being older, and hopefully wiser, I moved from a smaller salon in the New Town to new and bigger premises in the West End and our client list has grown rapidly.

The big difference in the city of late has been in the number of young entrepreneurs bringing new ideas and creativity to the Edinburgh social scene. Places like 99 Hanover Street, Treacle, Bramble, Bon Vivant and Below the Stairs at Hawke & Hunter… none of which existed until very recently.

One thing that I did find unfortunate in the city over the past five years was when the council decided to withdraw funding from Edinburgh Fashion Week after the first one in 2006. I think an event like that could really put Edinburgh on the fashion map.

About i-on: I’ve read i-on from the first issue. It’s just what Edinburgh needed - a comprehensive guide to the places to be.

Describe i-on in three words: Edinburgh for everyone.
