Scout Troop 21 Yard Sale for St. Croix Trip submitted by Ben Dibble

It’s time once again for the fall classic. The Boy Scouts of Summer are holding their annual Yard Sale. Troop 21 is having the biggest yard sale that the Wattannick Grange Hall has ever seen—again! For those who got some great deals, it seems like it was too long ago. The Scouts of Troop 21 are ready to help you find great deals again this fall. And for those who are looking to “unload some cherished possessions;” i.e., donate items, it’s time for you to clean out the basement and garage, with the help of the boys. The date will be September 18 running from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hall just off of Route 111. The sale will be held rain or shine. One time, it rained pretty steadily all day, but that didn’t dampen the spirits of the Scouts or the shoppers. “We think the rainy weather contributed to a great sale,” said Scoutmaster Ben Dibble. “No one could rake or mow lawns, so they came to our yard sale.”

diggins & ROSE Receives Patriotic Employer Award

submitted by Melissa Sullivan The National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve recently honored diggins & ROSE, agent for United Van Lines – an American mover – with the Patriotic Employer award. diggins & ROSE employee Jason Wescott nominated the company for the distinction. Wescott is a member of

the Army Reserves and will deploy to Afghanistan in September. In preparation for his upcoming deployment, he trains once a month and meets with returning troops. diggins & ROSE works with Wescott so that he can maintain his commitment to the Army while also continuing his work as a van operator. “Jason is an excellent driver and expressed how important the Army was to him at the time we hired him,” said Karen Prudence, operations manager. “I promised him that I would work with him and honor his commitment. He is very proud of his military affiliation.”

Established in 1972, the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) is a Department of Defense organization. ESGR seeks to promote cooperation and understanding between the military reserve members and their civilian employers. Since 1955, diggins & ROSE has been committed to providing quality service all the time, every time. As an agent for United Van Lines, diggins & ROSE specializes in residential moving and storage, corporate relocation and storage, and portable storage containers. For more information, visit www. digginsrose.com.

The Scouts are once again running the event. The boys are excited because they are raising funds for a trip to St. Croix. Next February, when their friends are knee deep in snow, the boys will be boarding a plane for the sunny Caribbean. The boys like to “help other people at all times,” as the Scout Oath states. And they figure that emptying attics and basements is a great way prove it. They also love the chance to peek at what has come in and look for the crazy things that show up. “Last time, there was a lot of Legos, bikes, and there was a ladies handbag with all her stuff in it!” said Harry Smith. The Scouts of Troop 21 are always working towards an adventure

or activity. They live by their motto, “Be Prepared.” The proceeds will go into a fund for the trip. Troop 21 has had some great trips. In 2007, eight boys went to the Canadian National Jamboree to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of Scouting. In the

past, they’ve gone to Cooperstown, NY, to see the Hall of Fame, New York City, Gettysburg, and to Washington, DC. Starting now, you can contact the Troop and get your donations

picked up. Yes, the Scouts will come to your house and help you donate to the cause. So you don’t even have to get it to the Grange. If you want to, though, the Grange will be open on Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings so you can drop off your items. Unfortunately, we cannot accept the following items: exercise equipment, couches, TVs, old computers or monitors, clothes, items containing Freon, entertainment centers, or mattresses. Call one of the following people to get your donations picked up. East side of Hudson, call Ben Dibble at 880-2077. South Hudson, call Mike Lambert at 880-4165. North Hudson, call Ken Low at 595-8448. We’ll be happy to arrange a pick-up.
