In the summers of 2008, 2009, and again in 2010, he created an event for the second year Jefferson Scholars as part of the Institute for Leadership and Citizenship.


Byron Christopher Hulsey


(ph.d.) Huntsville, Alabama


Byron continues to serve as head of school at Randolph in Huntsville, Alabama. This year Randolph celebrated its 50th anniversary, opened a new Upper School Campus, and enrolled more students than ever before. Perhaps Byron’s greatest joy was welcoming his son, Ben, to Randolph as a kindergartner.


Owen Joseph LaCour III


(m.d.) Metairie, Louisiana


Jay continues in private practice in ophthalmology in New Orleans where he also works with the NOAIDS task force and the EENT Foundation providing medical and surgical care for the indigent. He serves on the board of the New Orleans Academy of Ophthalmology and again coached Cole’s basketball, baseball, and soccer teams.


Kimberly Tan Majure


(j.d., l.l.m. tax) Falls Church, Virginia


Kim continues as a partner at Miller & Chevalier, practicing international tax planning and controversy. She is an adjunct professor with the Georgetown Law LL.M. Program, and actively participates in a multi-bar association campaign to promote the mentoring of women attorneys. Kim continues to serve on the Piedmont Area, Virginia Regional Selection Committee and the Alumni Advisory Committee. Otherwise, Kim and Bob (Col ‘90) spend their springs buried in the youth lacrosse world, with Kim coaching Mira’s (7) and Ellie’s (13) teams. (Thomas (9) got a pass this year.) She also decided to spend her mid-life crisis playing in a local women’s lacrosse league. Bob initially thought this would be cheaper than a convertible, but Kim’s orthopod assures him it won’t be.


Nelse Tompson Miller (j.d.) Poway, California


Nelse moved to San Diego and married William Miller and his two sons. She started her law practice anew at Lorber, Greenfiled & Polito, LLP where she specializes in construction defect defense for devel- opers and general contractors. She still volunteers

her time teaching with the National Institute of Trial Advocacy in San Francisco. Within the American Bar Association’s Real Property Section, she will act as the vice-chairperson of the Litigation and ADR Com- mittee and co-vice Chair of the Standing Committee on Communications.


Daniel Dillon O’Neill (j.d.) New York, New York


Daniel continues as the president of Direxion Funds Direxion Shares.


Julious Perry Smith III (m.d.) Richmond, Virginia


Jody continues his sports medicine orthopedic prac- tice with West End Orthopedic Clinic in Richmond. He is the president-elect of the medical staff at St. Mary’s Hospital where he practices. He is currently on the board of directors of the Virginia Orthopedic Society, The Little Sister of the Poor/ St. Joseph’s Home, and the Richmond Academy of Medicine. He is the team physician for Hampden-Sydney College and the Richmond Raiders indoor football team. He and his wife Melinda have three daughters who are eight, six, and three years old. Jody served on the Richmond Regional Selection Committee.

Jennifer Ann Amyx (ph.d.) Philadelphia, Pennsylvania


Jennifer remains on the faculty in the Department of Political Science at the University of Pennsylvania. Although currently on medical leave, Jennifer hopes to return to teaching in the near future. She is eager to apply her research on Japan’s financial crisis in the 1990s to analysis of the current global financial and economic meltdown. Jennifer served on the Philadelphia Regional Selection Committee.


Susan Stilwell Bowen


(m.s., m.b.a.) Schonenberg, Switzerland


Susan and her husband have settled into life in Zurich, Switzerland and are enjoying the new challenges that come with helping to establish new international offices. After a very busy year, Susan hopes to spend more time exploring Europe.


Brad Ronnell Braxton (ph.d.) Chicago, Illinois


Brad is the distinguished visiting scholar at Mc- Cormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, Illinois, during the 2010-11 academic year. In addition to teaching graduate courses in Biblical studies and preaching, he is researching and writing essays on social inclusiveness in progressive Christian


communities. His spouse Lazetta continues to grow her financial planning firm, Financial Fountains, and their daughter Karis begins kindergarten in the fall of 2010.


Patrick Joseph Brown (j.d.) Ridgefield, Connecticut


Pat continues to work for GE in Stamford, Con- necticut, and stays very busy with four children under the age of ten. He served on the Westchester, New York/Fairfield Connecticut Regional Selection Committee once again this year.


Anderson Drew Caperton


(m.a., j.d.) Charlotte, North Carolina


Anderson continues to work with Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP as special counsel.


Samuel Erskine Farnham (m.b.a.) Charlotte, North Carolina


Charlotte and the Farnhams appear to have weath- ered the financial meltdown okay. Sam remains active with the Jefferson Scholars Foundation, serving as chair of the Charlotte Regional Selection Committee and on the Jefferson Scholars Selection Committee. He continues to volunteer on the board at the Men’s Shelter of Charlotte, where he serves as chairman of the Governance Committee.


Harley Shuford Garrison


(m.b.a.) Greensboro, North Carolina


Harley continues as the vice president for adminis- tration at Starr Electric Company in Greensboro. He remains a member of the Jefferson Scholars Alumni Advisory Committee and the Piedmont Triad, North Carolina Regional Selection Committee.


Daniel James Greiner II


(j.d., ph.d.) Belmont, Massachusetts


Jim finished his third year as an assistant professor at Harvard Law School, where he works on quantitative and legal research dealing with election administra- tion and with providing legal services to indigent clients. He and Jen welcomed their first child, Cassie, to the family in late December. The timing of Cassie’s arrival unfortunately cauesd Jim to miss a year serv- ing on the Boston Regional Selection Committee. His Boston accent continues to stink.

Jennifer and Scott’s children are now in first, fourth, and sixth grades at Chiaravalle Montessori School,
