Julia continues to enjoy her time with her family: her partner, Aixa, children, Ino (10) and Amelia (8), and Gracie the wonder-dog. Her successful writing coaching practice keeps her fairly busy these days. In her spare time she helps out at the girls’ school, works on do-it-yourself house and yard projects, and tries to hold off middle age at the gym.


Paul Vincent DeMarco (m.d.) Florence, South Carolina


Paul continues to serve as director of Rural Commu- nity Health at Francis Marion University in Florence, South Carolina. He had the privilege of serving as a preceptor for Warren Mackie-Jenkins, a rising fourth-year Jefferson Scholar interested in medicine and public policy, for six weeks during the summer as part of the Jefferson Scholar Alumni Internship Program. Paul served on the Alumni Advisory Com- mittee and the Central and Upstate South Carolina Regional Selection Committee this year.


Robert Wilson Downes (j.d.) New York, New York


Bob practices corporate and securities law in New York City with Sullivan & Cromwell, where he is now head of the corporate and finance group. Bob continues to work with the New York City Regional Selection Committee and served on the Jefferson Scholars Selection Committee. He also serves as a director of ArtsConnection, a not-for-profit organization that promotes the arts in the education of New York City schoolchildren. He spends his free time with his family, including his wife, Mary Ann, and two daughters Margaret (12) and Helen (10).


Virginia Hilton Hallock


(m.ed., ph.d.) Henniker, New Hampshire


Hilton accepted the position of Vice President for Academic Affairs at New England College this past year. She has many of the same responsibilities she had as Vice President for Enrollment and Student Engagement, but she now also oversees the broad portfolio of leadership of New England College’s undergraduate and graduate programs. She encour- ages anyone traveling in New Hampshire to stop by!


Karen Michele Hardwick

Karen is now serving as the city attorney for An- napolis, Maryland. She has recently been appointed co-chair of a twelve-member economic develop- ment task force by the mayor of Annapolis and charged with exploring options including privatizing the city’s economic development efforts.


Frederick Joseph Keith


(m.s., ph.d.) Mableton, Georgia


Joe continues his involvement with the Atlanta Regional Selection Committee. He was also selected to participate in the Cobb Chamber of Commerce Honorary Commanders Association 2010 class, a program which pairs community and business leaders with local military commanders to learn more about local military activities, their impact on the regional economy, and various aspects of the national defense system. Joe also continues in his management roles at Atlanta Bonded Warehouse and Colonial Cartage Corporation and is cautiously optimistic that the trucking industry will finally turn a corner in 2010.


John Anthony Martin (m.d.) Chicago, Illinois


John continues to practice medicine in the field of gastroenterology at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. He also works as a professor at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University.


Holly Gilmore Moetell (j.d.) Scarsdale, New York


Holly has finally rejoined the workforce after a ten year hiatus from the law. She recently joined Career Strategies International, Inc. as a career counselor helping attorneys find more rewarding careers and is thrilled to be using her legal experience in an entirely new way! Holly is also in the process of set- ting up a foundation that funds grass roots charities to help women in the developing world. She and her co-founders expect to have the foundation up and running by the fall. On the home front, Holly and family remain in Scarsdale, New York. In the fall, their daughter Lauren will be attending Oberlin Col- lege, and their son Chris will be starting high school. Holly made it to her 25th U.Va. reunion and had a wonderful time catching up with old friends.


Michael Kennedy Osborn


(m.s.) Oak Hill, Virginia


Mike continues to research advanced sensor concepts for air defense applications with Science Applications International Corporation in Arlington, Virginia. He stays busy with the activities of his two children John (15) and Elizabeth (17).


John Marshall Page III (j.d.) New Orleans, Louisiana


Marshall is a partner in the New Orleans office of Jones Walker Law Firm where he primarily handles mergers and acquisitions and private investment transactions. He heads the business and banking practice group at Jones Walker and serves as treasurer on the board of his children’s school.


Amy Jo Sampson Chesapeake, Virginia


Amy continues as a vice president at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters and as a member of the Tidewater Regional Selection Committee. Her daughter Audra, now in middle school, is very busy, but not too busy to accompany Mom on road trips to Charlottesville and to root for the ‘Hoos year-round.


Tomas Franklin Schuler Landenberg, Pennsylvania


Tom assumed the role of President for DuPont’s Building Innovation business. He continues to enjoy working with the Delaware Regional Selection Committee. Tom’s son, Patrick, just completed his first year at U.Va.!


John David Villasenor


(m.s., ph.d.) San Francisco, California


John continues at the University of California-Los Angeles as a professor of electrical engineering and serves as a member of the Jefferson Scholars Foundation Graduate Advisory Committee.

John Carr Coates IV (j.d.) Newton Centre, Massachusetts


John spent much of the past year working on a book (on mergers and acquisitions) and working as a consultant for the White House, the Department of Justice, and members of Congress working on financial regulatory reform and campaign finance reform. He testified in the Senate (last summer) and
