RECOMMENDED DRIVING ROUTES FROM MS/HS COMPLEX

Bedford High School and the Ross A. Lurgio Middle School are conveniently located in the center of Bed- ford, .5 mile from Route 101. Route 101 is a heavily traveled road with local traffic, commuters, and people traversing the state.

The school board strongly recommends that all traffic (student drivers, parents, and visitors) that want to travel on or across Route 101 take alternative routes from the middle school/high school complex.

The recommended routes from the Middle School/High School Complex are:

• EAST: Left on Nashua Road, right on Rt. 101 • WEST: Right on Nashua Road, right on Wal- lace Road, left on Rt. 101

• NORTH: Right on Nashua Road, right on Wal- lace Road, straight across Rt. 101 to Wallace Road.

We recognize these alternative routes require drivers to travel a longer distance and given that all of us are busy, drivers may be tempted to go straight to Nashua Road. That intersection is already challenged with significant traffic volume and represents a more difficult entry on to NH Route 101 westbound from Nashua Road.

DEPARTMENT OF SPECIAL SERVICES

The Department of Special Services provides services to students with special needs. Special needs children are those children who need services in addition to the regular classroom. These needs are determined by a team in the school called the Referral Review Team (R.R.T.).

5 SAFETY GUIDELINES

The safety of each student is of prime importance at the Ross A. Lurgio Middle School. We believe our stu- dents should be knowledgeable about all safety rules and use safe practices at all times. We further believe that the goal of all courses is to instill a safe attitude and that all courses shall include continuing safety instruc- tion.

classrooms. Teachers should ensure students are not excluded based on food choices. The recommenda- tions should be adapted appropriately to specific con- text in each school and classroom. As with all things, the best approach is for each of us to use common sense.

•Healthy Snack Options: Instead of foods with minimal nutritional value, the district recommends healthy snack options or non-food alternatives for par- ties, celebrations, and meetings. Healthy snack op- tions include crunchy snacks (carrots with dip or bagel slices) and salty snacks (pretzels or low fat popcorn). Non-food alternatives include school supplies or ath- letic gear. A more extensive list of healthy snack op- tions and non-food alternatives is available at: http://www.sau25.net/CurrAssess/WellnessGuidelines.htm

•Food Rewards: The district recommends that food not be used as a student reward unless it is a necessary and integral part of the curriculum.
