PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES Teachers are available for conferences by appointment. If you wish to set up a conference, please contact the teacher by telephone or note. The teacher has various times during the day when conferences may be held.
At the end of the first marking period and the third mark- ing period, all parents will be offered a parent-teacher conference; as needed.
GUIDANCE SERVICES/ STUDENT RECORDS Parents have access to their child's records. Requests to review records may be directed to the guidance counselor. Copies may be made at the cost of $ .25 per page. There will be a $3.00 charge for each private school application.
Our guidance staff are available to all students and par- ents. Individual consultations or groups may be re- quested by students or parents when a need arises. We also have an excellent resource library of books on issues from ADHD, Asperger’s to Cyberbullying. Of particular interest to parents and eighth grade students are the resource materials which are displayed in the guidance office. These include catalogs of a variety of

ATTENDANCE
By State Law, all persons between the ages of 6 and 18 are required to attend public school or approved private school. A student may be excused for personal illness, death in the family, legal appearance, professional ap- pointments, religious holidays, and family emergencies. Absence from school for other reasons is unexcused. In the case of an unexcused absence, a student may make up work at the request of the stu- dent or parent, but no grades or credit will be given. Teachers may indicate the material in the course’s text- book which was covered during the student’s ab- sence. However, the teacher is not required to prepare individualized work packets for unexcused absences.
Parents are asked to call the school between 7:00 and 9:00 a.m., at 310-9100, and press “1” to use the voice- mail extension to report their child's absence. The school will call home during the morning, if they do not hear from parents, and work numbers will be called if necessary. The calls enable the school to determine the type and length of the student's illness and to as- sure that parents or guardians are aware of the ab- sence.
Students are expected to arrive on time for all home- room periods and all classes. Excessive tardies and/or absences will be referred to the administration for action to be taken.
Attendance at school is mandatory in order to participate in any school activity. Students must be in school for at least 1/2 day in order to participate in that day's activity. The exception would be an approved medical appointment, a death in the family, or a school visitation.
DISMISSAL Students may be dismissed from school during the school day only after bringing a note to the office with the following information:
• the student's name • reason for dismissal • time of dismissal
• parent's or guardian's signature
Students may be dismissed only to a parent or guardian unless written permission to leave with another person has been given to the office.
