Robots are rated for accuracy, speed, and points scored during competitions. Lego Robotics will be held over the course of a 10 week session from September through November. Sessions will be held two to three times a week. Students who wish to participate in Lego Robotics should understand that there are attendance requirements, and academic research expectations be- yond that of programming and robot design.


At the end of the 10 week session, a select number of students and/or teams will be chosen to compete in a regional tournament in New Hampshire. All students, male and female, are encouraged to join.


Student Council will be comprised of both 7th and 8th graders. Responsibilities will include planning events, volunteering for activities, representing the school, and assisting is mentoring others. Meetings will be held weekly in the morning, before school begins.


Art Club is offered to students who are interested in developing their art skills at an independent level. Stu- dents will have an opportunity to experiment with a vari- ety of art materials and experience creative opportuni- ties with some individualized instruction. Meetings are held once a week and begin in September, and end in May.


Math Counts fosters a love for numbers and higher level thinking skills using innovative problems and games. It is offered once a week beginning in the Fall. Competition practice begins in October and ends in February.

Student Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) is a peer leadership organization dedicated to preventing destructive decisions, particularly decisions involving underage drinking, other drug use, impaired driving, teen violence and suicide. Bedford Bobcats provides the opportunity for stu- dents with or without disabilities to participate in Special Olympics. Practices are held twice a month and the team participates in regional and state competitions. Available sports include: bowling, basketball, and track and field. Ross A. Lurgio Middle School Band The Concert Band is the main instrumental performing group. It is open to students who were in the McKelvie 6th Grade Band or by audition. It is also open to experi- enced string players (violin, cello, or double bass). The band plays diverse music which includes concert pieces, contemporary music, and movie themes. The band performs at two major school concerts a year, and also competes at a select band festival (including a trip to Canobie Lake Park). Rehearsals are every other day during ABC period. In addition, one week a month is designated as a "Sectional Week", where each instru- ment will have one extra rehearsal either before or after school.


Stage Band is a small group of select students who play music in the tradition and instrumentation found in the Big Band movement of the Forties. The literature performed is contemporary and jazz based. This group also performs yearly at the two major school concerts. The stage band rehearses on Fridays from 3:25-4:45.


Chorus involves students from grades 7 and 8. They meet daily during the ABC block here at school, and meet once or twice a week before school in the morn- ing, rehearsing two- and three-part vocal music. There are also occasional after school meetings. The Chorus participates in seasonal concerts and special activities.


Select Chorus performs challenging three-part clas- sical and popular songs. They rehearse once a week af- ter school. To be a member of this group, you must al- ready be in Chorus, and an audition is required. The Select Chorus meets twice a week in the morning be- fore the start of school.


Percussion Ensemble and Bell Ensemble is com- prised of seventh and eighth grade students, who meet during the daily ABC block during school. This is a performing group like Band and Chorus. These stu- dents learn to play all the percussion instruments in the band. The students do not need any prior experience
