g. Any student receiving a detention will be sus- pended for the next two practices and/or game/performance, whichever comes first.

h. Attendance at school is mandatory in order to participate in any school ac- tivity. Students must be in school for at least 1/2 day in order to participate in that day's ac- tivity. The exception would be an approved medical appointment, a death in the family, or a school visitation.

Inter- pretation of these areas may be different from sport to sport. In certain isolated cases, the physical and/or emotional well being of a student may be considered. In such cases the coach, parents, ac- tivities director, and principal will make a determina- tion that is in the best interest of the student and the team. CRITERIA: a. Academic standing (covered in Code above) b. Positive attitude, cooperation, and enthusi- asm (sportsmanship and team spirit)

c. Character and effort (commitment) d. Skills necessary for the sport e. General athletic ability f. Objectivity g. Mandatory participation h. Endurance and stamina

15.LENGTH OF SEASON No fall contests (soccer or field hockey) will be scheduled after October 30 and no winter contests (boys’ and girls’ basketball and volleyball) will be scheduled after March 25. This will eliminate any overlapping of sports.

16. PHYSICALS All students must have a physical in order to participate in any extracurricular sport. If an individual has had a physical within two years of the beginning of an activity, that individual may use that physical by presenting a note from the doctor stating that the individual is physically fit to par- ticipate. Otherwise, a physical must be performed by a doctor and appropriate forms filled out and shown to the coach of the activity.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Literary Magazine -The Lurgio Lens, our school's literary magazine, provides students with the opportu- nity to get their poems, short stories, quotes, dedica-

tions, and drawings published. The magazine is a unique forum for students to express themselves; to share their talents, ideas, and feelings with others. Stu- dents can be involved not only as contributors, but as members of our editorial board. The editorial board meets weekly before school from October to May. The students on the board are responsible for all aspects of the magazine's layout, editing, publishing, and market- ing. The editorial board members choose an inspira- tional quote for the cover, and judge the cover design contest. Once printing is complete, the magazine goes on-sale at school. Works for publication are always welcome. The Lurgio Lens Advisor - Ms. DeBell Rm. #114
