EMERGENCY PROCEDURES Everyone should consider the fire alarm signal a real emergency. The signal calls for immediate evacuation from the building by all persons. In some cases, the in- tercom will be used to call for an evacuation. If there is time, students will be asked to get their coats and return to homerooms and then the fire alarm signal will be acti- vated in order to evacuate the building.

Students are to leave in an orderly fashion with their teachers. Running and talking will not be allowed. Teachers will direct students as to outside procedures during an emergency evacuation. Students should re- main with their teacher at all times.

In preparation for emergencies, fire exit maps are post- ed in all rooms. Teachers will review evacuation proce- dures with their homeroom students. Remember, there is no such thing as a drill! When the alarm goes off, it is a real emergency.

Off-site Emergency Evacuation Plan The Bedford School District has plans in place to safely evacuate students from a school site to an alternative location during the school day. In the event this be- comes necessary parents may go to the District's web- site at www.sau25.netíQuick Links for further informa- tion. Parents will also be informed through the District's emergency notification services.

HOMEROOM

The entrance bell will ring at 8:45 a.m. Attendance will be taken at 8:50 a.m. The homeroom period is held daily from 8:50 to 8:55 a.m. It is extremely impor- tant that all students report to homeroom on time. The homeroom period is used to take atten- dance, make announcements, and conduct other nec- essary business. At the end of the day, all students will be dismissed at 3:15 p.m.

ANNOUNCEMENTS AND NOTICES PA system announcements will be made daily at 8:50 a.m. and 3:10 p.m. Students are urged to listen care- fully to announcements. Students are expected to take notices home the same day they are issued at Ross A. Lurgio School. Daily notices also appear on the Ross A. Lurgio section of the district website at www.sau25.net.

pride in Ross A. Lurgio School. The activities and clubs offered include: band, chorus, drama, Math Counts, lit- erary magazine, Technology Student Association (TSA), FIRST Robotics, Student Against Destructive Decisions(SADD), R.O.S.S. Club, Eco-Club, Student Council, Art Club, Writer’s Group and yearbook.

Sports activities include both interscholastic and intra- mural teams. Interscholastic teams offered are soccer, field hockey, track and field, cross country, basketball, softball, baseball, golf, and winter volleyball. For partici- pation in interscholastic sports, each parent must fill out a medical history form for their student, and each student must have a physical examination prior to tryouts. The statement of such an exam- ination must be on file with the Activities Director.

On occasion, performances, competitions and demon- strations are showcased on the local television station, BCTV. We believe this is an extension to public per- formances to which the community is invited to attend, therefore parents and students should recognize par- ticipation in any after-school activity has the potential for being locally televised. We appreciate BCTV’s support to provide parents and the local community opportuni- ties to enjoy and view our students demonstrating their talents.

ATHLETIC AND EXTRACURRICULAR CODE The following contract has been designed to bring an understanding among the coaches, the athletes or par- ticipants, and parents. The district requires that the ath- lete or participant sign this agreement fully realizing the effort, dedication and discipline demanded by an extra- curricular activity or club. The regulations set forth in this agreement are designed to help each participant achieve personal excellence within their extracurricular activity while maintaining satisfactory academic pro- gress. We believe that if these rules are followed, and we receive the cooperation of the athlete and his/her parents, the students will enjoy success in all extracur- ricular areas.

Extracurricular Code The school's discipline code does supersede and is applicable in both athletic and non-athletic activities. 1. An athlete may not quit one sport and try out for another after the season has begun without the mutual consent of both coaches.

2. For all athletic events, the athlete must travel to and from the contest with the team. Exceptions for emergencies can be made by the coach only upon written permission from the parent or guardian, allowing the athlete to travel with the par- ent or guardian. (Detentions are not considered emergencies.) This written permission must be in the coach's hands prior to the team leaving for that particular contest. Also, verbal contact must be made with the coach prior to the athlete's leaving.
