GUIDELINES FOR PUPIL APPEARANCE AND DRESS
All students are expected to be neat and clean and to be dressed in clothing appropriate for school. Dress or appearance disruptive to an orderly learning process will not be tolerated, and students who do not conform may be sent home after parents are contacted. All stu- dents must wear appropriate footwear which is not dan- gerous or harmful. Parents should avoid purchase of black soled hiking boots since certain types do mar floor surfaces.
In addition, student attire and grooming should not in- terfere with safe participation in such curriculum areas as technology education, physical education, or any other activity where reasonable precautions are dic- tated.
NOTE: Students are prohibited from wearing the following: 1. Any apparel which advertises alcohol or tobacco or otherwise promotes the use of illegal substances.
2. Apparel with "double meanings," which are inap- propriate for school wear such as concert t-shirts depicting illegal or antisocial behavior and buttons or pins with profane or vulgar words.
3. Clothing which permits bare midriff when arms are raised, or exposes a student’s chest or back. Straps on tank tops must be at least 1” in width.
4. Skirts and/or shorts shorter than four inches above the knee, without appropriate leggings.
5. Sagging pants (pants worn below the waist) are not permitted.
6. Caps, scarves, and other headgear are not to be worn in school.
7. Coats/outside wear are not to be worn during the school day.
8. Shoes unsafe for navigating through hallways and on stairways. (ex: wheelies, extreme high heels)
While the dictates of fashion may pressure students to wear certain items of clothing, these items may, in fact, be disruptive in a school setting. The administration will issue additional directives on inappropriate apparel as the need arises. Parents are urged to assist the school in monitoring the clothing which students wear to school. We must strive to maintain an appropriate edu- cational environment. The enforcement of the above regulations is at the discretion/ interpretation of the building principal.

LOCKERS
Homeroom teachers will assign lockers on the first day of school. Students are responsible for the proper care and cleanliness of their lockers. All locker doors must be kept closed and locked at all times.
If the lock assigned does not work, students should re- turn the lock to their homeroom teacher. If the lock can- not be used due to a defect it will be replaced at no charge. Students are responsible for the lock during the school year. If lost, students must purchase a new lock from the Main Office at a cost of $5. No student may bring in their own lock.
Heavy back packs, electronic devices, cell phones and other valuable items should be stored in lockers and are not allowed to be carried from class to class. The school cannot be responsible for lost or stolen items. Parents are asked to label students’ hats, jackets, and other personal items in case they are misplaced. Lockers re- main the property of the school. Therefore, the princi- pal or a person authorized by him or her may open lock- ers and examine the contents, including personal be- longings. This inspection may only occur when that person has reasonable cause to believe that the con- tents of the lockers threaten the health, safety, or wel- fare of the students, or include stolen property, etc.
