Destination Equitation Converges on Hills Of Headwaters


Submitted by Michele Harris Based on the success of the 2008 and 2009 Hills Of Headwaters Stable Tours, this year’s event has been expanded to an 8-day celebra- tion of equestrian excellence in the Hills of Headwaters region of Ontario (Caledon, Erin & all of Duf- ferin County), called Equitation Des- tination.

Taking place from September 11th to September 18th, Destination Equitation will offer something for equine enthusiasts of every level. On Saturday, September 11th the celebration begins with a Breed- ers Parade of Horses from 9 am to 10 am. The parade will showcase all breeds and sizes of horses, winding through town for all to see. Follow- ing the opening parade, visitors are invited to visit one of the up to 15 stables participating in our Private Circuit Stable Tour throughout the region. From 10am to 4pm, stables that are generally not open their doors to the public will open their gates and give visitors a sneak peak of their incredible facilities and opera- tions.


At the Orangeville Fairgrounds, the entire weekend with be a showcase for equestrian activity. On Saturday, Septem- ber 11th, organizers will hold a Warm- blood Show, Foal Futurity and Mare Inspection, as well as a demonstration by the Toronto Polo Club There will also be an equine trade fair featuring suppliers, tack stores, boarding and riding stables highlighting up to 75 businesses and industry suppliers.


On Sunday, September 12th the equestrian fair continues, and there will be demonstrations and workshops throughout


the day, featuring everything from riding demonstrations, handling workshops, grooming seminars, and other industry specific workshops, providing insight and information to everyone involved in the business.


On Sunday, HOH organizers are pleased to present a Farrier Competition and clinic, welcoming up to 30 competi- tors in three different classes who will be vying for prize money and the title of champion. The event is being organized by world-class farrier Sean Elliott, with the clinic and judging provided by inter- national judge Dave Ferguson. This com- petition will be a prelude to the interna-


On Thursday, September 16th, Destination Equitation will present a provincial forum on the “Future of the Equestrian Industry in Ontario”. Industry leaders, provincial and municipal politicians and industry stakeholders will be invited to hear panel discussions and listen to keynote speaker Akaash Maharaj, CEO of Equine Canada, as we investigate how the indus- try can continue to work together to expand industry growth and sustainability, as part of provincial and regional econom- ic development strategies.


During the week there are a vari- ety of workshops and activities scheduled to engage all equestrian operators and suppliers. On Mon- day, September 13th members of the Ontario Association of Equine Prac- titioners will be invited to a special seminar and industry dinner focusing on equine allergy testing; Tuesday, September 14th will be focus on women horse owners, and will include seminars, workshops, lun- cheon and fashion show. Wednes- day, September 15th highlights the “Art of the Horse” and will bring together painters, photographers and other award-winning artisans who specialize in horse art!

On Friday, September 15th Destina- tion Equitation will provide presentations on manure management and parasite con- trol, and we will once again presenting a Large Animal Certification program with instructor Jennifer Woods.

CNEA Horse Show Competition Returns


(Toronto, ON) July 26, 2010 — The Canadian National Exhibi- tion Association’s (CNEA) annual Horse Show will take place from Monday, August 2 through Sunday, August 29 in the Ricoh Coliseum and the Horse Palace at Exhibition Place. Highlights include Light Horse, Jumper, Heavy Horse, Minia- ture Horse, Welsh Ponies and Sport Ponies competitions. The Horse Show will also include the popular CNE HorseCapades, a fun-filled introduction to the world of horses for kids and families. All events are free prior to the opening of the CNE on August 20 and then are free with admission to the fair. The 2010 Horse Show Schedule
