Peer discussions, games and snacks are enjoyed by teens who attend Perry Branch Library’s Teens’ Top Ten Book Discussion at 2 p.m. on Sat., Aug. 28. The Teens’ Top Ten is a “teen choice” list where teens nominate and choose their favorite books of the previous year. Nominators are members of teen book groups in 15 school and public libraries around the country. Nominations are posted on Support Teen Literature Day during National Library Week, and teens across the country vote on their favorite titles each year.


Readers ages 12 to 18 can vote online between Aug. 23 and Sept. 17. The winners will be announced in a webcast featuring WWE Superstars and Divas during Teen Read Week.

Aug. 21 - Sept. 3, 2010 Tee off for Girls’ soccer teams


To raise funds for tournaments and travel expenses throughout the 2010-11 season, the Gilbert Arsenal Girls Premier Soccer Teams 95 and 96 host a golf tournament on Sat., Sept. 11 at the Arizona Golf Resort. The event features prizes for fi rst through third places, raffl e prizes and more. The cost is $75 per player, which includes a meal. Hole sponsorships and donations are welcome.


Foursomes or individuals can sign up to play. Individuals will be assigned to foursomes.

Maricopa County Library District Libraries in the SanTan Sun area offer a variety of programs for children and adults throughout the month of September.


Perry Branch Library’s September programs for children and teens include Wiggle Worms, 10:30 to 11 a.m. or 11:15 to 11:45 a.m. Wednesdays, ages 18 months to 3 years, caregiver accompaniment required; Baby Time, 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Thursdays, ages birth to 20 months, caregiver accompaniment required; Pre-K Story Time, 10:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays, ages 3 to 5 years, caregiver accompaniment required; Knit Happens, 2:30 to 4 p.m. Sept. 9 and 23, current service project making lap blankets for the Cancer Center at Chandler Regional Hospital; and CheeREADERS, 4 to 5 p.m. Sept. 14 and 28, one-on-one reading time between

Ed Robson Branch Library offers its monthly Wednesday Afternoon Book Discussion from 2 to 3 p.m. Wed., Sept. 22, this month discussing “Sarah’s Key” by Tatiana Rosnay; Basic Computer Instruction from noon to 1 p.m. Tue., Sept. 14 or Wed., Sept. 15,


a three-session course introducing participants to basic hardware, desktop and fi le management, basic word processing and more, registration required; and Basic Internet Instruction, 2 to 3 p.m. Tue., Sept. 14 or Wed., Sept. 15, a three-session course introducing participants to the Internet, basic email, using Google and library websites and how to print and save website information, registration required.
