Sonoran Desert Chorale announces new season

“Pathways in Song” is the title of Sonoran Desert Chorale’s 2010-11 season. Performances, under the direction of Jeff Harris, are inspired by the human journey, from discoveries made by travel to spiritual awakening.

The Chorale’s fi rst concert, “In Search of Light,” features the chorale works of James Whitbourn and Rene Clausen and explores the words and writings of history’s most enlightened men and women at 7:30 p.m. Sat., Oct. 9 at First United Church in Mesa and 3 p.m. Sun., Oct. 10 at Valley Presbyterian Church in Paradise Valley.

The Chorale continues its annual holiday celebration with the Southwest Brass for a joint concert of festive seasonal music, “Home for the Holidays,” Dec. 11 and 12.

In spring the Chorale performs traditional folk hymns and spirituals from American composers in “American Routes,” Feb. 26 and 27, 2011. The season concludes with music inspired by the great European crossroads of Vienna and Budapest in “Crossing Paths” April 30 and May 1, 2011. The fi nal concert also kicks off the Sonoran Desert Chorale’s 4th International Tour as the group embarks on a historic tour with performances scheduled throughout Austria, Hungary and Slovenia.

Season packages for the four-concert season are $50 and $40, available now by calling 480-305-4538. Single tickets for all concerts are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and students, and will be available for purchase Sept. 1.
