Gangplank invites brown baggers to speaker series


Brian Coughlin, vocalist and guitarist for the Phoenix-based band “Kinch,” presents on Aug. 25 as part of a weekly Brown Bag series of speakers at Gangplank. Various topics are offered from noon to 1 p.m. every Wednesday. Future bookings include: Infusionsoft CEO Clate Mask talks about “Growing Culture on Sept. 1; Bill Wynman of Phxated.com is slated for Sept. 8; Comedian John Griggs takes the stage Sept. 15 and Mike Shaldjian of Media Watch AZ is scheduled Sept. 22. Gangplank, an incubator space for individuals and small businesses “creating an economy of innovation and creativity in the Valley,” is located at 260 S. XB participants gain fitness, cash


an enthusiastic participant in XB’s fi rst 10-week fi tness program. “XB has defi nitely changed my life in a positive way,” says Rodriguez. “Without this program I would not have had the motivation to go to the gym daily to work out, and would have continued feeling unhappy with my body.” XB’s next session, open to those wishing to improve their health and fi tness level, begins Aug. 21. Participants attend 45-minute sessions six days a week. The program includes kickboxing, strength and toning exercises, a personalized nutrition plan and a $1,000 prize at the end of the session for one hard-working participant.

Registration deadline nears for HOA Academy


Aug. 27 is the last chance Chandler residents have to sign up for the City of Chandler’s HOA Academy. The six-week course is held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursdays Sept. 2 through Oct. 7 at the downtown Chandler Police Department’s Community Room.


Classes are facilitated in an interactive, hands-on setting to allow optimum learning and practical application. Topics include HOA budgets and structure, meeting facilitation, CC&R enforcement, homeowner rights and responsibilities, selecting a management company and more. Those who complete at least fi ve classes receive a Certifi cate of Completion and are recognized at a future Chandler City Council meeting.

Chandler’s eXtreme Bodyshaping recently awarded $1,000 to Wendi Rodriguez, Simply Unique offers ‘Girls Night Out’


More than 35 local vendors from across the Valley gather for Simply Unique Boutique’s Girls Night Out, offering a shopping extravaganza from 5 to 9 p.m. Fri., Aug. 27 at the Chandler Hilton Hotel.


SanTan Sun area women are invited to check out chic clothing, stylish jewelry, accessories for men and women, baby accessories, home decor, make up and much more.


Participants younger than 18 must have the consent of a parent or guardian, and those younger than 16 must attend with a registered adult. The cost of the course is $369, which includes gloves, wrist wraps, an XB course manual in which to log workouts and meals, and three fi tness evaluations. XB owner Randy Edwards enjoys the direction his business is taking. “I love what I do,” he says. “Not only do I get to meet great people, I’m able to help them achieve their fi tness goals.”

This has been a real passion of mine.”
