The heart was the first and then I got a swallow on my
right hip when I went to Las Vegas for my 21st birthday.
We loved watching old musicals and playing dress up when we were younger. I soon realized that despite the fact I would belt out show tunes and twirl around the living room, my skills lay more in making shop and planning. Melanie was very creative, shy, sweet and quiet and didn’t like attention. She always had an incredi- ble sense of personal identity and ex- pression through fashion and styling and eventually, our paths began to cross in the vintage world. With my spreadsheets and her looks we found ourselves as manager and model, as well as close sisters…and Diablo was born. I’m so proud of her and when the Vintage Ink team asked me to interview Diablo, I was delighted.
Why do you love vintage? When I think of ‘vintage’ I just think of glamour and elegance; the 40s and 50s were all about the body, the waist and that hourglass silhouette. When you buy something vintage you’re so much more appreciative of it, like it’s a little piece of history and I love that feeling when you wear it. I also love routing through vintage shops; when you find something it feels like you’ve really earned it. The old black and white movies feel like they’re from a different world: the screen icons, the fashion and style, the music. It’s so luxurious and I just want to surround myself with all that - with the odd modern benefits here and there!
